Some strange and unusual vintage diagrams.
NRC boys ranked by how much I trust them to fix my plumbing:
1. First place goes tooooo⦠Ortho! He basically has all knowledge of plumbing ever via the internet and he doesnāt have human limitations when it comes to strength. 10/10, couldnāt ask for a better plumber.
2. Second place is⦠Jamil! Heās done quite a lot of chores in his employ, and heās overall very reliable. Iād bet good money that heās either A) tagged along to supervise or B) has done the Al Asimās plumbing before. 9/10 for theory and practical ability.
3. Third place is⦠Idiaā¦? Well I do worry about his physical condition, heās pretty much the only cast member other than Ortho who would know anything, at all, about plumbing. 8/10, he has the theory and the practice, I just donāt know if his body can take it :/
4. Fourth place is Pepaw Lilia! This guyās been everywhere and down seemingly everything- heās definitely acquired some kind of plumbing knowledge on hai adventures. 8/10
5. Itās Epel! Heās helped out a lot on the farm- heās strong and used to manual labour. While I wouldnāt trust him with anything too complicated, heās probably decent enough with the basics. 7/10
6. For many of the same reasons as Epel, itās Deuce in sixth place! Again, I would not trust him with anything too complicated, but he can probably handle the simple bits. Maybe pair him with Idia for maximal utility? 7/10
7. Vil. This guy has all sorts of knowledge from his film research and role prep- there a good chance he knows something about plumbing. Plus, heās very strong and has a good work ethic to boot. 6/10- heās no expert, but I donāt think itāll be a disaster or anything
8. Jack. Do I think he knows anything about plumbing? No. But heās strong, also has a good work ethic, and more importantly- he has common sense. 6/10
9. Riddle. Again, I worry about his strength, but heās very diligent and will make sure that not only it is safe, but also that itās up to code. While I donāt think he has prior knowledge on the subject, I trust that heād do his research. 6/10
10. For (again) many of the same reasons as Riddle, in tenth place we have Azul! āBut wait!ā You may say, āWonāt Azul scams you?ā And while yes, I would worry about the payment, he generally always does what he promises to do- itās just what youāll have to give up that would worry me. 5/10
11. Rook. Above average strength, good work ethic, etc. Unfortunately, I donāt think he knows anything about plumbing and more importantly, I donāt think he has the technical knowledge necessary for anything complicated, nor do I think he has previous experience. 4/10- it would go poorly, but I would t worry about an explosion- just leaky pipes.
12. Jade. Same as Rook, but he might just make it worse to see the reaction. 3/10
13. Trey? Again, no prior experience or knowledge, similar to your dad doing diy, which is not acceptable or safe in plumbing :/ 3/10
14. Ace. It could be worse, I guess? At least I donāt think anyone will die 2/10
15. Silver. I donāt even know if he grew up with modern plumbing tbh? 2/10
16. Sebek. Itās gonna be a disaster, but itāll at least be a funny one. 2/10
17. Leona. I⦠Donāt think heāll even tryā¦? Heās strong enough to move stuff if you mange to convince him, but if he knows anything about plumbing, or bothers to learn, Iāll buy a hat for the express purpose of eating it. He gets two points cause you can probably pester him into carrying stuff while someone else does the actual job. 2/10
18. Cater. I also donāt think heāll try, but less out of laziness and more because heās seen posts about what happens when you do diy plumbing and he knows heād be terrible at it. Gets two points cause heāll point me in the direction of something who can do plumbing. 2/10
19. Malleus. Unless your plumbing is several centuries old, I donāt think heāll even know what good plumbing is supposed to look at. Good luck o7 youāre gonna need it. If he even touches your plumbing, I suspect youāll be paying quite a bit in repairs. 1/10
20. Kalim. GET THIS MAN AWAY FROM THE PIPES. AND MAKE SURE YOU HAVE GOOD INSURANCE. 1/10 ur pipes are gonna explodeeeee
Unranked:
Ruggie- I think heād do a good job in theory, but in practice Iād think heād only fix it just enough that itāll break in the next few months so he gets called back and payed again to redo it. Could be good in practice, but heās not trustworthy enough.
Floyd. Heās either the best, like straight up a professional plumbing or heās the worst and your house is gonna flood a la Kalim. Tbh I donāt think he knows if heās good at it or not?

Roman Bronze Double-Action Water-Pump, Probably 3rd Century CE From Bolsena, Italy, The British Museum, London
This pump had two pistons (a), which were raised and lowered by a rocking-beam (b). The pistons were housed in two cylinders (c). At the bottom of each cylinder was a non-return valve (d).
When one of the pistons was raised, the valve was pushed open and the water rose inside the cylinder. When the piston reached its highest point the valve closed, trapping the water inside the cylinder.
On its downward stroke, the piston forced the water out through a side pipe (e). It then passed through a second valve (f) into the central discharge pipe (g), where it drained away.
