Disney College Program: FAQ
Question: What are the program seasons? Answer: There are several programs available for you to choose from! Just select the one that best fits your needs. Spring Program: January - May Spring Advantage Program: January - August Spring Advantage Quarter: April - August Fall Advantage Program: May - January Fall Program: August - January
* An exclusive “Summer Alumni Program” may or may not be offered some years dependent on Cast Member needs
Question: When do applications open? Answer: Applications for Fall/Fall Advantage will open (usually) in late January/early February. Applications for Spring/Spring Advantage programs tend to open mid-late August/early September. Click here to apply today!
Question: What are the application requirements? Answer: To apply, students must be currently enrolled in a college or university and taking classes. Candidates must be at least 18 years old and meet his or her school’s requirements for participation. Participation in this program requires unrestricted work authorization.
* Not all schools have special requirements - be sure to check with the internship coordinator or with someone at your school before applying to be sure! Question: What are the fees associated with the program? Answer: For the FL program at Walt Disney World Resort, the fees are $300 which must be paid at the time your accept your offer. You are typically given one week from the reception of your offer email to complete this. The program fee includes a $100 program fee and $200 housing deposit to cover your first week’s rent. For the CA program at Disneyland Resort, the fee is $860 which must be paid at the time you accept your offer. This includes the $100 program fee, $200 security deposit and $460 for housing. This covers the first several weeks of rent.
Question: Do I need to bring a car with me? Answer: At WDW you are not required to have a car, but I found it to be much more convenient to have one with me when I completed my two programs. Transportation is provided to the parks, Disney resorts, and even to the Florida Mall, Publix, and Walmart. The schedules may or may not mesh well with your personal schedule, and you may find yourself waiting a long time before or after work. If you are able to plan accordingly and allot yourself a good chunk of time - you’ll be perfectly fine!
At DLR, the company does not provide transportation. Public transportation must be used if you do not provide your own form of transportation, so it’s highly suggested that you bring a car. However, a complimentary bus pass is provided for those who may need to take advantage of public transportation.
Question: Is Disney College Program participation limited to people with certain majors? Answer: No, everyone is able to apply for this life-changing internship! Question: If students are not accepted the first time they interview, can they try again? Answer: A student may reapply 6 months after their initial interview as per company policy. Question: If a student needs to decline an offer will this hurt his/her chances of getting into the program in the future? Answer: Declining an offer will have no impact on being accepted into a future program, although there is a chance it will be discussed in a phone interview.
Question: When will students receive an answer regarding their interviews? Answer: Recruiting tells you that you should hear back generally within two weeks. Let it be known that the time greatly fluctuates and there will be people who hear back almost immediately, and those who will have to wait weeks and weeks. Continue to monitor your dashboard for any updates of your progress.
Question: Where will I work? Answer: Participants work a various locations across the Walt Disney World® and Disneyland® Resort property. Your location is kept “secret” until you check-in for your program! Question: If I do not like my accepted role, can I change it once I arrive? Answer: Once you accept the role that has been reserved for you, you make a commitment to that position for the duration of your program. Question: What will my work schedule be like and when will I have days off? Answer: Plan on working somewhere around 40 hours per week, sometimes more during the peak season. Work schedules and your days off will vary from week to week and may be specific to your work location. Many College Program participants work on traditional weekends and have their “weekend” somewhere in the middle of the week. Question: When will I be paid? Answer: EPCOT! Every Paycheck Comes On Thursday! Funds will be deposited onto a unique debit card or directly into your bank account if you choose to set up direct deposit.
Question: Where do Disney College Program participants live? Answer: For WDW, there are 4 private apartment complexes: Vista Way, Chatham Square, Patterson Court, and The Commons. Apartments range from 1 to 4 bedroom apartments with two/three students in each room. More information about the housing can be found in DORMS. DLR participants live in an apartment complex named Carnegie Plaza.
Question: Can I choose my roommates? Answer: Yes! Most people find their roommates on social media. One week before your arrival, you will get access to DORMS. Here you will be able to setup your roommate and housing preferences.
Question: Are the apartments furnished? Answer: Yes. There are beds, dressers, coffee tables, sofas, etc. Cookware is also provided (forks, knives, spoons, etc.) but can often be missing from the apartment upon check-in or of poor quality. Consider bringing some of your own items!
Question: Where do I do laundry? Answer: There are laundry facilities at each complex, with the exception of The Commons where there are units within the apartment. There is a small fee to wash and to dry your clothing if using one of the facilities. You may pay with quarters or by using a debit/credit card.
I hope that this answered any questions you may have had! Feel free to respond and ask more questions.
DIsney College Program: See Ya Real Soon!
Today, I received my official time to check-in for my second Disney College Program Internship! I will be checking-in on January 19th between the hours of 10-11:00AM! Will any of you be joining me?
I honestly have not made an effort to connect with many people this time around, and unfortunately, I have only planned to have ONE ROOMMATE. She checks in earlier than I do on our arrival date. I don't want to be all alone in line. Send me a shout out if you'll be there!
Disney College Program: DORMS
Quite a few things have changed since I completed my first Disney College Program Internship in 2012, and one of those things happens to be the addition of DORMS.
What is DORMS? DORMS stands for Disney Onsite Resident Management System, and it is the new way for Disney College Program participants to select their roommates, housing info, etc.
I received my email for DORMS on January 6 (13 days before my arrival date), and I was very excited to begin the process of finally pairing up with my roommate and selecting our housing preferences. Things to have handy while completing the online paperwork: drivers license and registration if you're bringing your car, your roommate id number. Also, pick ONE person to be a captain to rank the housing.
