The first comparison is not just about shape/crumple zones. It's also about size. Modern cars are a HELL of a lot bigger. Which, sure, one could argue it's "safer" for the driver. But it's far more dangerous for literally ANYONE not in the car. And, from what I know, it's not even ABOUT safety. The reason they're so fucking big is to get around things like emission regulations, and to qualify for tax breaks. It's to save the manufacturers a few bucks.

The other thing that catches my eye is the colors. Old cars came in all SORTS of colors. Watch a movie, show, whatever from the 70s and you'll see so many different colors. Go out onto the streets now? Cars are overwhelmingly shades of gray, white, black, and dark blues and dark reds. Color options have dwindled so so so much. Yes, multiple options still exist. Yes, colors like bright green, turquoise, yellow, orange, etc still exist. But they're nowhere near as prevalent anymore.

And, going back to the shape thing: not ALL of the shape changes have been the result of adding crumple zones. Not all of them have been for safety purposes. So many have just become.....boring. Hell, just look at the Nissan Leaf!!! They used to have such a fun look, with their weird headlights. But starting in 2018, that bit of personality was lost. They now look like damn near any other hatchback.

To fix this, the politicians gave an exception to semis, but not in the smart, "here's what semi trucks are allowed to do" way. They set a weight limit. Theoretically, this meant semi trucks were automatically exempt. In practice, vehicle manufacturers started making trucks so big that they went over that weight limit so they wouldn't have to bother with making proper engines and can keep filling iur atmospherewith that good old exhaust fumes.
