He smiled gently. “That sounds cool! Maybe I’ll stop by sometime.” He said. It was endearing that Tien was a teacher. That was something Horku couldn’t really do. Sure, maybe mentor a friend, but teach an entire class about fighting? Not his thing.

“Well I… Uh… It’s kinda hard to explain but I’m kind of like a paid best friend. Sort of-uh, okay!” He chuckled and sat up. “So people pay me to hang out with them, go on dates, stuff like that. Don’t worry, I won’t charge ya for this!” He joked with a wink, laughing and crossing his arms.

The wink is kind of disarming, so Tien looks off in another direction. 

This isn’t a date.

Despite his inexperience with the general subject and service, Tien was not born yesterday. If his intuition is right, he knows exactly what Horku means -- and though he’s not one to judge, it does take him by surprise. 

do they stay up too late? do they like staying up?

Being a farmer, Tien has a pretty consistent sleeping schedule that he sticks to for practicality. It’s cut-and-dry, and very straightforward, leaving little room for late night activity. It’s not like he has an awful lot to do in the dark, anyways.

“Oh? That’s cool! I haven’t been doing as much of that since I came to earth. There’s nobody to really fight against, ya know? I could go out in the desert and do stuff but it’s boring. And right now being super powerful ain’t really a priority for me.” He explained, looking off to the side.

“But you said school? You work as a teacher? What do you teach?” He said as he looked back to Tien with a warm smile.

“Martial arts, funnily enough,” he chuckles. “My brother and I run the place together. Initially it was just to pass time, but I have to admit, it’s been nice. Seeing my pupils grow, and change... I’m happy to provide the guidance they need to be better.”

At this point, he has very little doubt in Horku. The saiyan wears too much of his heart on his sleeve, is far too genuine; meaning the poor guy really was just trying to buy a sandwich. And Tien antagonised him. And now he’s buying Tien lunch.

Tien can afford to entertain some small talk.
