Something that I feel like I've never seen anyone talk about before is that immediately after Mudclaw's death in Starlight, Hawkfrost is the first cat to suggest that the lightning-struck tree that crushed Mudclaw was a sign from StarClan, showing their approval for Onewhisker as leader.
Let me repeat, Hawkfrost— the cat notorious for faking StarClan omens for his own advantage— is the one who interprets the lightning tree as a sign.
All the other cats do accept the idea of the tree being a sign without argument. And, granted, only Mudclaw being crushed by a lightning-struck tree that also just happened to make a bridge to the island (the Clans' new Gathering place) does seem maybe a little too convenient for it to just be a normal natural disaster. However, it's also very convenient that Hawkfrost immediately uses this "sign" as his justification for his apology and abrupt heel-turn to Onewhisker, acknowledging him as WindClan's StarClan-approved leader and thus getting himself out of trouble... 🤨
