'Lovely to be rained on with you.'

Started making this 3 months ago, but I was soo busyy I have to do it on and off- still finished it though, so it's a win 😎😎

When Hanako parts from Nene, it's very emotionally intense. I love how he tries to act cold towards her, even like a villain when he tried to erase her memories but before that, he hugs her. Maybe because he thinks it's the last time he will see her.

She confronts him about his selfishness, about the way he does things without regarding what others want, but that isn't enough to destroy his facade yet. However, he listens to her attentively.

He wasn't planning on telling the truth to her, but he does so because let's remember that "he can't say no to her". He sighs. And starts to reveal everything to her.

But he's acting and saying everything in a carefree way, like what he did was nothing, so she would hate him instead of missing him. When Nene said that she didn't wish for any of that and that she meant something else, it reminded me those scenes in horror movies / books / mangas when the main character realizes that their wish has terrible consequences and sacrifices "Be careful what you wish for". So AidaIro put some horror elements in this scene, but combined it in a beautiful way with Amane's love for Nene. I love the contrast between that horrifying aspect of Hanako's nature because he's a supernatural that grants wishes for the living no matter if the way to grant them is wrong or right, and the love he feels for her.

To him Nene's lifespan was more important than anything. He didn't care about the way he would do it, he just wanted to keep Nene alive & we later learn that he wanted to do it "by his own hands".

So he wasn't just grating her wish, he also was doing it for himself.

"A... Aoi can't die in my stead, I don't want that!"

"I thought as much. But Yashiro, I like you more than Aoi-chan, you see..." .

And yet, we also learned later that he didn't care about what happened to him at all so that he could grant her wish. He was ready for Teru to exorcise him if that meant her lifespan would be extended.

Selfish selfless.

Now, Nene gets really angry, of course, and is about to slap him in the face but despite what he did, she hesitates... she isn't able to slap him... No matter how vile or cruel his actions are. Deep down she knows that everything he did was for her. That he wanted her to keep on living. And on the other hand... She didn't want him to leave her. At the end, her feelings for him were stronger than the anger / hatred Hanako expected.

So instead of slapping him, she started to cry and that destroys that facade of his! He gets surprised. Maybe he didnt expect for her to be attached to him after what he did. He expected for her to hate him. He thinks he's not deserving of love for his vile acts after all.

And watching Nene cry, is enough to stir something within him, of course. It destroys him to see her crying and saying to him "Don't go" because of what he did. He preferred her to hate him. Both of them feel pain, sorrow because of their impossible circumstances. He's dead, she's alive. He expresses the pain he's feeling through his facial expression. He can't help it. They both feel the same way. In reality he never wanted to do it, but he felt it was the only way. He's probably thinking here: "Damn, I wish things could be different... I also want to stay by your side..."

This scene parallels the one of the pilot. With the difference that in the pilot it was really the last time they saw each other. But I love this Hanako's expression. It reveals a lot. That maybe if he doesn't easily accepts it, he wants to stay by her side.

So in the severance scene, he finally opens up to her. It's the last time he would see her, right? (He thought that).

And then he hugs her and drops that beautiful line...

"I wanted to try living with you too, Yashiro"

And then she sees him disappearing before her eyes...

The whole scene is on my top 3 HanaNene moments. It's very emotionally intense and it reveals the depth of their feelings for each other in a direct and indirect way. It also depicts Hanako's dark and horrifying side and Nene's acceptance of that in some way. She didn't care about how wrong his actions were, she couldn't hate him because her love for him was deeper. And Hanako realized that.

1) Skin is scarred by the injuries he sustained and those scars carried over into the afterlife

2)Wears the winter uniform as a ghost despite dying with the summer uniform to cover the aforementioned scars. Is very self-conscious about them.

3)Had freckles when he was alive but lowkey lost all of his melanin when he died so as a ghost he's extremely pale and his freckles don't show up.

But!! When genuinely happy/feeling positive emotions he appears more life-like.

4)That one old trivia from Aidairo states that he likes animals like cats, dogs and rabbits AND think the Mokke look like rabbits so we can kinda infer that he likes the mokke/have a soft spot for them due to the resemblance. Whichhh makes me like to believe that after school when going back home he'd stop for a bit to pet/feed any stray he found. He's just really fond of animals(Him liking bigger sized animals x Nene who prefers smaller, cuter rodents like hamsters hehe he how can I make everything about Hananene) 

5)His affinity with mechanical engineering that we somewhat see in canon/official au's makes me like to think that even before he tried fixing the big clock he had a fondness for playing around with mechanical parts and in his free time he had fun fixing random shit and tinkering around with stuff. Would repair minor faults around his house whenever they’d arise(Malfunctioning radio, leaky faucets etc…). Uses his father’s toolbox for everything. As a ghost, seeing technology advance so much as the years pass by absolutely fascinates him. At one point Tsuchigomori lent him some old beat up phone like a Nokia for him to dismantle. 

6) The memory wipe he experienced(Of him attempting to fix the clock during the school festival + some people believe that extends to his memories of Nene too which I wholeheartedly agree with because wdym 12 year old Amane is capable of remembering her yet 13 year old Amane from the Tea Party arc can't. I just find it very sus Hanako has like 0 recollection of her AT ALL) lead to him getting chronic migraines which still affect him in death(shh don't ask me how idk how ghost physiology works). Whilst alive I'd imagine sometimes when he sleeps he'd get hazy visions of his clock-fixing days + Nene. Would not remember jack when he wakes up but would feel unsettled/on edge. 

7) Can actually be pretty good with kids. It’s the Big Brother™ in him(I guess Alt timeline him learning magic tricks for his students + other things kinda makes this canon???)

8) Awful immune system that causes him to catch colds/get sick easily + easily susceptible to seasonal allergies.

9) Near the end of his life his sleep schedule would be absolute wack. The residue stress/anxiety of everything that was going on would leave him restless and feeling awful at night. And most of the times he was able to fall asleep, he’d wake up in a cold sweat from a nightmare. He’d learn to push through the sleep deprivation and be functional during the day, but he’d still find himself reeling from sluggish coordination. He sometimes sleeps through Tsuchigomori’s classes since he’s the only teacher who won’t scold him for doing so.

+ Adding onto this, supernaturals dont have to sleep, but they can if they want. Hanako absolutely refuses to close his eyes however because the rare few times he's tried it's always ended in a nightmare.

10) Had a bad ankle sprain as a kid and ever since then that specific ankle has been weak and very suspect to rolling at the most inconvenient of times(Okay this is straight up projection LMAOO)

11) Very into reading. Prefers factual non-fiction based material but when it does come to fiction he’s into sci-fi and stuff. I think i saw this in a fic once and I absolutely adored it, but basically since Hanako’s is from the 60’s the language he uses can be quite outdated so Yashiro and Kou learn at least 1 new word from every conversation they have with him.

12) During his first few years as a ghost his stability was so down in the gutter that he’d experience frequent auditory and visual hallucinations. Days were numb and nights became living breathing nightmares. Sometimes he’d spend hours hunched over the rushing water of the bathroom sink, scrubbing his hands raw whenever he’d imagine Tsukasa’s blood on them, sometimes he’d feel so sick to his stomach that he’d vomit or dry heave over the toilet bowl(Screwing around with ghost physiology again i mean cmonn they can get sick its not too far off the table to assume they can vomit). It’d affect his physical form too, his appearance a reflection of his mental state- As a ghost, all of the open wounds he’d died with have scarred over, however, during these bad episodes he’d resemble exactly how he was the MOMENT he died, causing him to bleed everywhere, it made him look absolutely terrifying. The bathroom lights would flicker like crazy, the windows rattled violently in their frame, stall doors opened and slammed shut, pipes shuddered, like the bathroom was unravelling with his mind. Like a place truly haunted. The self-inflicted stab wound he died from would burn and the combo of all the awful sensations would cause him to black out sometimes. Though, as the years pass he’s able to get a better reign on his emotions and such occurrences become sparse

13) Again, during his first few years where his mental state was Not The Best™ the guilt was too much at times. Physical pain was something he was so familiar with, and the absence of it while he was supposed to be repenting for his sins ate away at him. So sometimes whenever dealing with apparitions he’d purposefully let them land some of their hits, allow himself to be roughed up a bit, allow the pain to shoot through him in a way too painfully human. As a form of self-punishment
