Familiar: A serval she met as a kitten named Onshe. True chaotic spirit, antagonizer. Does not let on how much she cares for Seiya but would die for her. Regardless of how much she steals from her.
Magic type: Excels in water and nature magic, and most notably she is aether sensitive. Meaning, she can sense the cosmic life energy that unifies and flows through the world. She cannot manipulate it in any way(though some may argue the aether is where the ability to perform magic comes from to start with, she cannot actually manipulate or “see” the aether itself), but is constantly tuned into it and how it feels, which is a consistent drain on her own resources. Hence, she has a significantly fast metabolism and is always eating. In some ways this sensitivity translates into being an acute empath, able to feel the auras and emotions of those near her. She gets overwhelmed easily in crowds and tries to avoid them, but with great effort she can tune it out. In other ways, this translates also into being very sensitive to spirits; Lucio plagues her.
Spells/Techniques:
Can predict changes in the weather by sensing pressure changes in the air and energy shifts.
Communicates with non-human beings, but not by words like she would communicate with her familiar. Consists of images or “feelings” exchanged back and forth.
Image below: Can enter the mind of nearby animals by “threading” out her magic. While remaining immobile herself, she can see through their eyes and control them, but cannot override the animal’s innate instincts. I.e. her control can be broken by fear and she cannot will them to do something unnatural.
Growth/rot magic: can accelerate the growth of plant life to, for example, bloom a flower in her hands. But this also means she can accelerate them to decay. Theoretically she could do this with non-plant life (was able to accelerate the decay of an already dead doe to essentially dust) but she has never attempted it and considers the decay spectrum of this magic to be taboo. In dire circumstances, could use the decayed matter of one plant to create something different in it’s place (decay a shrub, grow instead large roots to block a pathway).
She used this magic on herself ONCE in the opposite direction (had never attempted to slow growth so it was rudimentary) when infected with the plague and gave herself a 4th day
History:
Infancy: ([0-2] Seiya’s father was only home for her first year of infancy before setting off again, but in that year he was overly doting and affectionate. Her mother wasn’t necessarily bad at rearing her, but really wasn’t nurturing. She never wanted a child to begin with and after realizing she couldn’t keep her husband home with one, she became more distant.
Childhood: ([3-12] Seiya started to learn magic by 6 years of age when her mother realized how sensitive she was to it. She made friends with most of the village boys and was often mistaken for one when she was younger. This got her into a lot of trouble, especially when she would come home covered in mud and bruises.
Adolescence: ([13-17] Teen years) Seiya’s restlessness and rough nature really only accelerated as she grew, exacerbated by the lock and key her mother tried to keep her under and the encouragement her father gave her to hunger for the world. It came to a head at 15 when her father disappeared, and blossomed at 16. She left home on her 16th birthday and went first to earn her Wayfinder cheek tattoo. She met Novyann, her mentor, on this same island, who taught her to defend herself. 16yo Seiya below:
Adulthood: ([18+]) Seiya came to Vesuvia at 17 and met Asra around this time, after a full and constant year of travel that tempered her wild nature. Her restlessness never really went away, but given the freedom to go where she wished and practice magic for various small jobs to maintain a living matured her greatly. She continued to travel in and out of Vesuvia but found her anchor there in her close friend. She inherited the magic shop at 18 from an aunt she never knew she had, and started to spend more time in Vesuvia in the hope her father might come for the inheritance that was rightly his. She invited Asra to move in shortly after since he didn’t have a home of his own, and it was her first one since her parents’.
Death: She contracted the plague and died at 23.
Physical attributes: Has two tattoos, one on her cheek for her father that was known as the Sanfordi Wayfinder mark.
Meant to be a very simplified compass needle, and was a sign of a skilled navigator. The same family line has been giving these tattoos to her father’s lineage for generations as the southern island on which they live is extremely difficult to get to. It is a right of passage to obtain this tattoo. The one on her back was meant to resemble an albatross, for which her father’s family is named and an animal she always admired. Post resurrection, her left arm was covered entirely with a burn scar. When she was sent to the Lazaret, she like many others found herself in the crematorium before she was entirely passed. The flames found her left side right before she finally succumbed. In the resurrection, this could not be mended and is a deep source of conflict for Seiya, since she doesn’t know where it came from and Asra can barely look at it.
Personality: Seiya is the definition of a free spirit, she does what she wants for the most part, but is deeply in tune to the needs of those around her. Fiercely loyal, deeply devoted to those close to her. She has a tendency to lose herself in details and hyperfixates fairly often to the point of obsession or zoning out of the world around her. When it comes to decision making, she prefers to not make big decisions in the moment. She believes firmly that clarity is best obtained after a night of sleep. She feels a lot of things at a ten; when faced with something distressing, or a situation she doesn’t know how to react to or feels she’s reacting irrationally to, she will remove herself from it and revisit in the morning. With conflict, she will remove herself entirely if she can. Nervous ticks manifest in her drumming her fingers or spinning her thumb ring. She loves talking to people and does so with ease, and is often very playful, especially when flirting. She’s wildly curious and loves puzzles and unanswered questions. A deep sense of adventure chased it ambitiously before she lost her memories. Now she’s just restless and doesn’t know why. And on the topic of losing her memory, the irony was that before, she remembered everything. She had near photographic memory with her sharp eye for details.
Quirks: Wanders off a lot, and will sometimes just, up and disappear. She’s extremely flexible and will often settle into positions that couldn’t possibly be comfortable. Can fall asleep anywhere and if she hasn’t gotten enough to eat she will. Her fast metabolism means she needs to drink copious amounts of alcohol very very quickly in order to get drunk. Very comfortable with being naked, and loves to bask in the sun. She collects rocks, feathers, crystals, shells, trinkets like a damn dragon. She absolutely hoards as many little things as possible, anything that catches her eye. She keeps them all in the shop and though it may look chaotic, she has them meticulously organized in a system only she really understands. She over accessorizes as a result.
Most important possession: A necklace her father gave her when she was 12. Very connected to it even though she doesn’t remember why.
Relationships: Has a strong platonic relationship with Asra. Loves him like family, but for a long time kept a wall up with him with how often he used to disappear on his journeys(deep fear of abandonment). What likely stunted any possibility of a romantic relationship. Love interest is Julian, she fell for his reckless and adventurous nature on the spot. Enjoys Nadia’s company but is intimidated by the proprietary air. Her mentor/adopted sister figure is an ex-pirate named Noyvann that taught her defensive techniques(like the sash trick above) and how to take care of herself in the world. Post-death Seiya doesn’t really know who she is to her, but in the first year after rebirth she became inexplicably close to her. However Nov can’t stay in one place long due to a bad reputation.
