After working in a place where people often asked questions answered by signs, I find it to be the case that when a person is in a new place, there is a lot of stimuli to take in, so the sign has to be of a certain size, obviousness, and recognizability to be quickly separated out from the other visual noise.

Struggling through half a dozen abortive posts to explain this so just the thesis: I think that an inability to imagine yourself adapting to and maybe even finding satisfaction in a wide array of living situations weakens your ability to make decisions about your life. I know so many people who have let potentially good things pass by even when they have a generous safety net because they are paralyzed by a fear of doing something that feels alien to them.

this is about the death penalty and its also about call out posts about people who have already apologized for things they did a long time ago and it’s also about using ‘toxic’ or ‘abuser’ as if its an immutable class of person, and its also about any other circumstance with permanent consequences or wherein you assume someone is still the same person they were.

I think that part of what irks me about AI being used even for "small" stuff like meme graphics (aside from all the larger problems obviously) is like.... the time spent on it was part of the humor. "this is a silly inconsequential joke but I had to stop everything and spend 5 minutes making it" was, at least for me, part of the joke. Someone really took time out of their day to make me look at something silly they took time out of their day to make. Now it's like someone took time out of my day to make me look at something no one even made. Stop wasting my time if you aren't wasting yours too.
