for the bridgerton and heated rivalry parallel enjoyers
Bridgerton as a modern hockey AU crossover (?) or Heated Rivalry joining Bridgerton AU crossover
I need that video of Ksenia and Nadine acting out the gym scene. I refuse to get threads or go to Tiktok again and it’s not on YouTube
Reading a fic and it’s very good. The author made choices that work but are not what regular Hollanov would do. The Hollanov crafted from the wet clay used to make the fic works. It brings up thought though with Fics. At what point is the fic and source material so divergent that it’s not really the same word. The ship of Theseus idea I guess.
listen all #myshanes are valid and i respect all visions, but i must share that my #myshane is not a nurturing team mom type. he is here to win and all are going to get on board with that plan. there is no or. that is the plan and adherence is not optional.
he won't be actively mean about it, but the softest correction you're getting is, "cool. do that again but good this time."
Yes! He has expectations he has assessed each player at current level and where they can go. Hayden and JJ and Ilya are obviously his favorites. They do what he expects and play at the appropriate level he expects them. Hayden gets shit for not being Shane’s level but Shane wouldn’t expect that. He expects Hayden to listen follow the plan and be there when Shane needs it. That’s it. That’s a skill! Hayden would probably be a good support for Ilya if they were on the same team because he’s used to adapting to Shane and Ilya is a slightly different style but same skill level.
His chirps are just devastating assessments of your skill. He’s not rude per Say but blunt!

Blistering love comes after and quest to meet Kerry comes next
Personally I do think that sometimes non-hockey fans can end up mischaracterizing Shane and Ilya because they don't know enough about hockey/hockey playstyles
The Ilya we see in Heated rivalry would not be throwing the first punch, he's not an enforcer. Ilya is a star center and a Pest. He wouldn't be doing his job correctly if he was punching players every other game, it would end up with not enough ice time to let him be the playmaker he's paid to be.
But being a pest can be playmaking! Find a player to bait, emotionally push them just enough that they try to fight you, and then get the fuck out of there before the ref gives you both penalties. This gets your team the power play. There is probably someone on Ilya's line dedicated to helping him get out of the fights he starts, and finishing them for him!
I also think this is also something that Shane would respect. Ilya is good at it and it's a good strategy for his team. I don't think Shane would see it as some dirty tactic, because Shane probably thinks everyone with a brain can see it for what it is! He probably thinks everyone should be able to see that being an asshole is a tactic for Ilya, that it's something to ignore and not fall for, that it's a strategy and not personal beef.
I think Shane's more disappointed when a Metro falls for it. Shane sees it as Ilya set up a Looney Toons ass obvious trap and one of his teammates ran into it. Why be mad at Bugs Bunny when you can be mad at your defenceman for falling for a fucking Bugs Bunny trap.
@chieana adding your tags because yesss definitely
like wait, hold on, this is a good point that I never considered. Yuna Hollander being a momager would definitely be something Shane would get chirped for and Shane doesn't go for stupid fighting penalties but also you can't let an insult to your mother slide, no one can. Yuna is both present in the hockey world and also very recognisable. There can't be many Japanese women involved in hockey in the GCU, it would be obvious to even the most concussed player that that's Hollander's Mom. Let's also add a sprinkling of "Shane's mom is hot' because while that's never been explicitly stated in book canon, it's clear in the show, and also, Shane got his genes from somewhere he's got hot parents for sure.
So what do we get? Shane's got a momager. A fair number of other players probably recognise her. She's really hot. Shane never dates. Shane's the best/2nd best in the league and it's really fucking difficult to make him get a penalty. Hockey players are generally misogynistic.
Shane baby I'm so fucking sorry for the horrible shit you've had to hear about your mother
And Ilya wouldn't go for this because 1. the obvious trauma, and 2. he likes Shane and doesn't want to genuinely piss him off.
I also think it would be fun if there's a secret third thing Ilya does where he IS able to get Shane in the bin and get a power play against Montreal but I have no idea what it could be because I don't know hockey. I also think it probably doesn't work all the time otherwise they wouldn't be so evenly matched.
Also I read in a fic and it makes sense. Shane would fight quickly and brutally initially to set boundaries if people were sexual or racist to his mother. He’d probably swallow racism to him but his mother no he would shut that down and the hockey boys would get that. As it got known it wouldn’t really be used beyond the Kent type and Shane would be able to fight without issues.
I feel like sometimes in the fight against reducing both characters into cliches, we end up going too far in the other direction and stripping both characters of the things that actually are very clearly established as significant traits that mean something.
Shane IS neat. He folds clothes before sex. Maybe not all the time, but it's something that he at least does to express nervousness and he complains about a messy bed after sex. He's private enough that I'd be surprised if he DID hire a cleaning staff, even with a hard core NDA. A man who buys out the apartments next door (show) or a whole different building to have sex (book) is not going to risk his privacy like that.
I get that folks disagree with the take that Ilya is particularly sloppy or gross. I do too. But we don't have to ignore Shane's canon traits to do it. (Honestly, stupid jock Shane is as reductive a cliche as every other version that we see, and it's tedious as fuck when you like to pay attention to details in your media.) We don't need a contrast here. They can both be neat people.
This time however, I want to rant about Ilya and the way a lot of fans really want to downplay his partying and occasional fuckboy nature.
No, Ilya was not "the boring one" in Russia. The partying is not new to Boston. Sasha makes that very clear. Sasha was expecting Ilya to fuck. He was expecting him to do drugs. Because they've done it before. The fact that Ilya isn't as sexually confident or experienced as he pretends to Shane that first time doesn't mean he's not a 19 year old fuckboy. It just means he's a 19 year old fuckboy and all that entails.
(Also Sasha was propositioning him in the same fucking building as his dad and all sorts of other really powerful people, within the year that Russia passed that anti-gay propaganda law, DURING the Olympics when scrutiny is at its highest. Even if Ilya wanted to join Sasha, he's not stupid enough to do it.)
Yes, when we see Ilya in Russia, we see him train. We see him take care of his father. We see him support his family. Those are all responsible traits that Ilya has.
We also see him go to night clubs with Svetlana. We see him with women. Later, it's significant when he blows off a woman because he's busy texting Shane. And it's significant because fucking women (and presumably the occasional man) is something that Ilya genuinely likes to do.
There's nothing wrong with that, by the way. You can be both a responsible person, someone who cares very clearly about consent, who parties and has sex. These are not mutually exclusive traits.
But people act like they are and that's annoying.
Ilya is smart. Ilya is responsible. Ilya seems to be very financially solvent (and I do appreciate that we seem to be moving away from the "Ilya needs Shane and/or Yuna to take over and fix his career" silliness. Dude might or might not not have his sports cars in the show, but he owns property in Boston and Moscow, he can afford penthouses in Vegas, he has plans to make a trust for his niece, he's doing fine.)
He also likes to party and he likes to fuck. He likes the escape and he likes the release, and he likes the feeling of control he gets through sex with a willing partner and there's nothing wrong with any of that.
I just wish we'd stop trying to apologize or minimize traits that Ilya does not need to apologize for. And I wish that we could stop stripping characters from their quirks and interesting traits in general.
I see that. Like Ilya might not do 401ks and IRAs and the truly responsible retirement investments to their fullest (I just don’t think he believed he would live to 30 and retire): He’d probably appreciate a recommendation but yeah he handles his money well enough. He might not have the same or number of deals for endorsements as Shane but definitely some

my true heated rivalry hot take is that i think shane would love ilya less if ilya wasn't a hockey player. like that boy spent his entire life worshipping hockey and then fell in love with one of the best hockey players to ever live. like i gotta be honest i think the hockey may have had something to do with it
Russian language speakers!
Love the language and tried learning a bit but as a basic English speaker I can’t wrap my head around the alphabet. I also have hearing loss and speech impediments so doesn’t make it easy. How do you guys handle it? (Partly rhetorical because I know native speakers will just learn it as they grow)
a measured response to people speaking against hollanova as hockey players because i need you all to get serious about women’s hockey right now.
FIRST OF ALL. being queer women in the public eye will never normal or boring. yes, many pwhl players are gay and out. that doesn’t make pwhl hollanova less interesting.
the rivalry between shane and ilya is what made the secrecy regarding their relationship so crucial. they weren’t the first gay players in the league, but there was much more drama for them when they were outed because they were “rivals.” this can and should still exist in the pwhl au.
shane would still be one of VERY FEW women of color in the league. this is still something that might make her want to keep her sexuality out of the conversation. people already don’t take her seriously for being asian, let alone for being a lesbian AND fucking a female rival.
AND LASTLY. shane’s wish to be the best player in the league, and play the best hockey imaginable. even if the league was more open to their relationship, i know she would HATE that every move she makes has to be related back to her marriage and her sexuality. ex. stacey and poulin - the wife line, they’re gay marcus, etc. i’m not saying those real women feel any sort of way about those conversations, but hashtag myshane would really struggle with them.
and on top of all this, ilya’s family would still have a problem with her sexuality, and genuinely her sports career is far more interesting to me as a woman who chooses to move from russia and away from her judgmental family when she won’t be making millions like ilya. ESPECIALLY because if we keep the timeline the same, the pwhl wouldn’t have existed when they were starting out, so there is just so much rich women’s hockey history to be played with here.
moral of the story: feel free to make your ballet figure skating gymnastics aus but do notttttttttttt discount hockey hollanova i never want to hear that. all tongues that rise against them will fall
I see your perspective! It’s well thought out! It’s a great idea and foundation for a great story. I think the crucial differences that you show make it interesting change it too much to get the exact experience.
Shane had to deal with the racism and homophobia.
Ilya the homophobia and xenophobia and immigration.
Other than that they got the idealized hockey experience and they can hide it to maintain that. They got money, popularity, and recognition of being the best and while hiding institutional protections. Hollonova wouldn’t have that part. it’s like getting cookies and cream when you wanted chocolate. Yes cookies and cream have a lot of the same ingredients but doesn’t taste the same. I loved Cleat Cute as a soccer romance with a lot of the same ingredients but it wasn’t quite the same.
Though the husband line or hockey husbands title does seem to indicate fans would do the same as focusing on the wife line.
did shane hollander write this post tuna melt
They changed it 😑 fucking annoying! Pride month has been meh to bad the last couple years and I hate that
I love that "Hayden Pike has a crush on Shane Hollander" isn't just a fandom trope, it's genuine textual analysis.
I also love that "Marleau and Ilya have definitely shared women and/or fucked in front of one another" is not even close to being hinted at in canon but we all know it to be true.
Wish I could find the og post but the most accurate Ilya and cliff headcanon I've ever seen is that Ilya for sure jumped on the bed for cliff at least once so he could get with a Mormon girl
I hate I know what this references.

I stepped away from Star Trek. I came back for StarFleet Academy only to have it cancelled 😞 but I feel like I’m missing a bunch of info. I know older Trek ST:NG, DS9, Voyager, and some of Discovery and Picard. Am I missing how StarFleet Academy didn’t have a class for a long time how is there is stillStarFleet and Federation. I know the long lived species helped and there time travel shenanigans I don’t fully know: I’m almost done with the season and if it’s explained tell me or is it later in Discovery that I didn’t get to. I know I missed something
the sex scenes were graphic but then, so what? just like what everyone's been saying, even hudson, if HR was a straight show they wouldn't even give a fuck about those sex scenes, like it's just another tuesday. they couldn't sit with the fact that those scenes weren't loaded with loud ass music and wasn't shot in silhouette, they didn't like the realness of it! but what the heck is wrong with it being so realistic? I personally love how realistic it felt, how intimate it was, it's like... you can almost feel it! and mind you, it wasn't horniness I felt but LOVE, AFFECTION, CARE. I think people who called HR porn are fucking porn-addicts, idc I said what I said.
I have watched each sex scene multiple times and would rather watch those then GOT or most HOTD scenes. There more consent, intimacy and positive energy than all of GOT or HOTD. And I loved Bridgerton too but again HR did it better imho.
