Day Without Electricity
Grabbing a moment to communicate here while I can. Our power has been out since Friday when a swirly snow was blowing about. In the bright daylight, there are many things one can do without electricity. On my ironing board next to the defunct iron, I lay out my treasures to organize. Such irony!

Day 91
Here are some of the socks machine-stitched together. I abandoned the seam-binding early in, perhaps to my eventual regret, but I rather like the springy element instead of a rigid seam. Anyway ... I’ll show the finished pillow next, and I’ll include an actual regret. It was inevitable.
Day 90
This is the beginning of the Sock Pillow. What you see here are the top parts of old socks and some seam binding, were I to do this properly. Bill likes to put his feet up on the coffee table, and this pillow is for his socked feet. So princely, right?
I’ve decided to make little Christmas presents for myself and patient family members all through the year because it brings such satisfaction. Also, I’ve found that for reasons unknown, I really like to cut stuff up. I don’t hesitate at all, even when I should have. 🐔
Day 89
This is the flip side of the boro-mend on David’s work jeans. My goal is to make it sturdy, but not flashy. Also, I’ve been doing a ton of extra stuff, with photos to follow ... sooner than one a day. 🐔

Day 88
I wasn’t kidding when I said I was mending. This is the inside of the jeans and I’ve just grabbed a couple more skeins from my stash, Clark’s Belfast #182. The patch material is pretty sturdy -- it came from my brother’s pants when I hemmed them. A sharp eye will detect the opened up seam and worn ghost of the bottom. 🐔

Day 87
Here is how I’m tending to the small holes that decorate this huge blanket. I’m using only red, for consistency and not trying to make any kind of shape, but rather ... just enough to remove the hole.
For reasons I’ll never understand, tending to these tiny holes gives one a sense of wholeness and stability.
This person…. fixes butterflies….. 🦋
This is wonderful! But I would like to know what the prosthetic wing is made of and what kind of glue was used.
The wing was a donor wing from a butterfly that had died, and the glue was “contact cement” which is a powerful adhesive that bonds instantly!
I’m so glad there are people who talk about butterflies like this.
An amazing mend.
Day 86
It will be mending all this week ... this is a back pocket where a wallet always goes.
And here it is a little further along. I will continue with a few more stitches in varigated blue until I fell redundant. Then, we wait, needle ready. It’s magical to be able to bind the holes and make it whole. 🐔
Day 84
This day is Out of Order -- I had taken and labeled this photo, but events overtook me, forcing chaos in numbering. But, it will all work out. Here is what I thought was a really clever thing: this is the base of the spine of one of my journals. See the threads glued down on either end? Twine.
Day 86 will follow next ... and it will have real stitches.
Day 85
Here is my stitch for the day. And what day might this be? January 2, 2018 to be exact, which could mean a transfer to the new stitching group? But how to get there? No idea. Meanwhile ...
The stitch shown is for one of the signatures of a book I made, which had come loose just when I was wrapping the present. I had to compensate by making my first visible thread, which I sort of liked. The thread itself came with my new leather sewing kit, and it’s a very heavily waxed linen. It works itself loose there in the inner binding, so in the future, I will probably have to glue them all down after stitching.
For the rest of this month, I’ve acquired a new batch of jeans to repair, so boro it will be each day, with maybe some witticisms to spice things up. Happy to be back, whenever. 🐔

Day 83
Totally lagging behind, I know, but I’m working upstairs on a Secret Project, and I have to spread out and organize it in the Red Room, where the comfy couch is. We got it a few years ago from Craig’s List, and it is tiny, super-stuffed, and starting to fray. I’ve covered those areas in these crocheted medallions, secured with blanket stitching with variegated thread.
There are many crocheted patches on the couch, which is fine by me. 🐔
Day 82
Time for a bit of a turnaround, as I think about things I might make for unsuspecting relatives. At a loss for what to attempt first, I thought it might be a good idea to take care of something closer to home: the seam on my comfort sweater. I can’t get too fancy because it feels scratchy inside and the point of a comfort sweater is Comfort. And little tiny fuzz balls, which are best ignored. I could shave them off, but really. 🐔
Day 81
I liked the strawberry idea, and the seeds here are not so wonderful, but the whole effect is OK with me. An older, sadder mend is visible just beyond the hoop ring; I’m going to move on to it next. I think this will be abstract. Yeah, that’s it. 🐔
Day 80
Some couching, some slacking ... I’m going to go with a bit of dark stitching, maybe, just to set it off. As with everything in progress, I’m going to step back and see how I like it before proceeding. And why does everything turn into a flower, stem, and leaves? Why? I have a lot of googly eyes just sitting in a jar, waiting. 🐔
Day 79
The beginnings of a prettier patch on the sweater with the bacon patch. I’ve jabbed the fuzzy thread in with a needle-felt jabber, and I’ve mended a new hole with regular thread as a base. Tomorrow: the couch! 🐔

Day 78
These are the tools of the trade for needle-felting: a surface to stab into, which is the yellow memory-foam pillow you see on the left. The square of corrugated cardboard holds needles of various sizes. All the needles have burrs on their tip, which macerate the threads into each other when you stab. Exciting, eh? 🐔
Day 77
Moving right along, here you can see where I petered out on the needle-felting. Still, now I can see the virtue ... things sit on the surface. I am going to do this for the precious green sweater. There are a lot of holes in the blanket, and it’s going to take a while and might be considered excessive, so I’m going to bounce between the blanket and the sweater and beyond. 🐔
