Dante did not intend to come out alive from his fight with Vergil and that fact haunts me. He gave the deed to his shop, this thing that's been a constant in his life that's given him purpose. It's not some shop, this is his home. V told him about Urizen and Red Grave City is wrecked AGAIN, it's the Temen-ni-gru all over again, and he starts filing paperwork. Dante barely survived killing Vergil once, the grief haunted him which is made clear in the 2007 anime. Everything in that anime is reminding him that he's an incomplete half of a whole. The biker that loses his brother, the two students of Sparda who were twins. Now his brother's back bringing the apocalypse all over again and Dante feels responsible to take the weight instead of Nero but it doesn't mean he intends to support that weight again. No, no, Dante would rather die than relive Mallet Island all over again
@poppedbubblgum I am sorry but it would be a CRIME to leave this in the tags. YOU, YOU GET IT. "The last hurrah of a dead man." That line hit me right in the chest, it's exactly what I was thinking but worded so much better, holy fuck this is gold
they don't bite 😉

Collection of fanarts I did while happily watching Gnosia animation adaptation the past months XD
Reblog this photo of a käpylehmä to have a käpylehmä in your blog
It's a trick! If you reblog you get TWO käpylehmäs in your blog!
They're traditional Finnish toys, little cows made out of spruce cones, on their way to see the world from one tumblr blog to another
part two of Grace knitting on the Hail Mary. This time, he's crochet his besties.
Ok like. Imagine life without ads. You wake up, check your messages across a variety of apps, no ads. You get up and put on the tv while you prep your breakfast, no ads. Maybe you drive somewhere and switch on the radio, no ads. Maybe you drive a long distance, yet somehow, not a single billboard on your path. You pick up a newspaper or magazine to pass the time, no advertisements only articles. You turn on your game console, the home screen is just about your games, no ads to buy more. You open a streaming app, you don't pay extra for no ads, there's just no ads ever.
Think about how much of your time is spent looking at ads. "Download ublock" yeah I know, I have. But that doesn't change that the world is covered with endless advertising. Imagine never seeing that again. How much better our lives would be.
bang

I have recently finished playing Devil May Cry 3
This game rules. Everyone is everyone's narrative parallel/foil. A lady shoots a guy with a rocket launcher and he rides the rocket like a skateboard. It's mind-numbingly difficult. It has the most awesomesauce opening sequence of all time that shoots the moon like a thousand times. Every time you think it's about to become cringy, it commits so hard that it loops back around to being awesome. They have themes On Purpose. Vergil is finally a character who exists, the world will never be the same. Dante is wearing a coat with no shirt under it for almost the entire game. Dante says cool one-liners and attack enemies with a guitar. Dante cries at the loss of his brother, even though he spent the entire game trying to stop him. Lady cries at the loss of her father, even though she spent the entire game trying to stop him. Vergil has spent so long trying to become his father, yet in the end he has become his antithesis. Dante has spent so long resenting his father, yet in the end he has become the inheritor of his legacy. Dante reaches terminal velocity and gets eaten by a flying whale. Lady has like 3 different characters arcs and they all work. Everyone besides Lady is making jokes throughout the whole experience. The game thinks it's the coolest shit ever and it's right. Vergil and Dante's souls are at war but they still love each other so much. Dante tries to save Vergil and Vergil rejects any aid, instead choosing to fall to hell where we know he will undergo unfathomable torment. Vergil instinctually reaches for the amulet instead of the sword, signifying like a bajillion things but the two that immediately came to mind were him clinging on to his humanity and him viscerally needing a piece of his mother with him. Dante keeps the bloodstained glove Vergil sliced through. The villain is an evil human instead of a demon, emphasizing Lady's final lines that there are humans worse than any devil and devils who are capable of nobility. The good deeds and sins of the father aren't yours, but you must take responsibility for them regardless. Outside of 'Father', Vergil calls Sparda 'Daddy' and Dante calls Sparda 'Pop'.

i'd like to add that the shadow color isnt necessarily dictated entirely by the primary light source, but the bounce light! so for the example of a sunny environment, the reason the shadows are blue are because of the light from the blue sky reflects across the environment; but, if the character were to be under tree cover, the bounce light would be coming from the leaves and thus the shadow would look greener.
Yee yee!!! You got it right on the nose!
Bounce light is something I didn't cover but I adore it!
Gotta work on my bounce light 💪

James Gurney is an absolute master and gives really good clarity on colour techniques. Yes, it is traditional paint focused, but the principles are the same. Yes it is informed by the environmental colour but as a painting technique it is achieved this way!
I would also suggest that in digital processing, rather than apply a regular colour layer at a mid opacity, try out the different types of layers, Eg. Screen or Multiply. This can give you at least a starting point to help direct your colour palette.
Layer Blend Modes are so so so important to working in digital art. There's a ton of math that goes into figuring out how the layers should blend together, which is why some of the modes you can pick are literally called Multiply, Add, Divide, and Difference (that's subtraction). The graphics software takes the color values of your base and blend layers and runs a calculation to get your resulting layer appearance. The ones that don't have specifically mathematical sounding names are still doing calculations, but they're more complicated (think linear Algebra and higher). Some of them, like dodge and burn, are named for actual photo editing techniques.
While it's not super important to know about the mathematical side of blend modes, I think it's worth knowing at least enough about how each of the categories of blend modes works and why they do what they do; if for no other reason than having a starting point when you start experimenting with them in your work.
An overview of the basic blend modes and how they work from Genevieve's Design Studio: Accessible with minimal color knowledge; practical and illustration focused. https://youtu.be/kMc87hQrJd0?si=TWCB365pKSfWS8p0. (16 minutes) This creator also has a ton of free resources you can download, including a Blend Modes cheatsheet, but fair warning: you have to create an account to get them!
Want to learn even more about the math-y stuff? It has great film visuals! A video from FilmmakerIQ: You need some basic knowledge of RGB color models, understanding of values/luma, and at least a tenuous understanding of Algebraic formulas.
