well, sometime after that when the Romans showed up they really and i mean really liked Greek culture. one of them was a poet named Vergil, who wrote an Odyssey-inspired Roman sequel to The Illiad, called The Aeneid. in very very short terms, it boils down to "the Romans are actually the descendants of the Trojans who lost the Trojan war" and it follows Aeneas, who with his crew journeys to Italy and basically this becomes the foundation for founding Rome. among other things, Aeneas also gets a guided tour of the Underworld. it's an incredibly elaborate piece of propaganda really.

(bonus fact: while describing Tartarus, one of it's prisoners stands out. because among the worst monsters of Greek mythology is one normal dude who's in for impersonating Zeus - by loudly driving his chariot around the city, flashing torch light and making loud noises. so basically all BMW drivers are going to Tartarus for impersonating Zeus. this brings me great joy.)

but then roughly 1300 years later, a dude named Dante Alighieri reads The Aeneid, goes "omg kin" and writes his world famous self insert fic where Vergil-senpai takes him on a personal, guided tour of Christian Hell - and yes he totally ripped it off from Vergil's work. right down to separating his Underworld into sections lmao.

it gets even better tho, as about 300 years after that, John Milton, inspired by both Dante's Inferno and The Aeneid, writes Paradise Lost, which is basically The Bible fanfic where Satan's a misunderstood antihero.

and THEN, AFTER ALL THAT, A GUY COMES ALONG - William Blake, who, inspired by both Inferno and Paradise Lost, writes a tome of poetry called The Marriage of Heaven and Hell (if you want a rec from that - check out his Proverbs of Hell. they're cool. watch out tho Blake certainly had A Style).

and it is only then, after ALL THAT, that we finally get to DMC where the main characters are named after Vergil and Dante, and Vergil keeps quoting Blake's poems.

ALL OF THAT. HAD TO STACK UP. TO CREATE THE REFERENCES FOR DEVIL MAY CRY.

I wanted to use what ‘reach’ I may have here to share the Carolina Wildlife Center’s urgent plea for donations. If they are unable to raise $75,000 to cover ongoing and future care of their wildlife patients, the center will have to close July 20th, 2026. The services provided by CWC to the community are incredibly valuable, and without them, many wild animals will suffer without the care they need.

Tldr Amnesty International, global human rights organisation, published a report called 'A growing threat: the anti-rights movement in the UK'. In it is detailed, amongst others, a whole bunch of transphobic groups and organisations, including Beira's Place, JK Rowling's trans exclusionary sexual violence support service. JK Rowling threw a shit fit and got Amnesty to take the report down by threatening libel. This was obviously not enough, because you can't appease a fascist, so now she's going to bankroll a bunch of lawsuits anyway through the JK Rowling Women's Fund.*

Some of my headcanons are that Dante and Vergil have physical characteristics such as eyeshine, sharp teeth (like two sets of upper canines), and slit pupils. And animalistic behaviors like purring.

Then a random thought hit me: What about the possibility of demons (in general) having a broader hearing range than humans? 

personally, I don't believe in any "special" ways of communication they can have, Except the very basic unconscious ones (like recognising each other's energy. certainly useful, but not enough for communication), Or new ones they can develop post-dmc5-hell-return, though I don't think they will.

My reasoning for this is that the sparda bois loser trio has been separated and alone most of their respective lives. They are not human, and they are not demon, the only ones able to really understand them is each other (hey another thing uncle dante denied nero with his silence). You can't learn communication when there is noone to communicate with. Vergil hasn't had pleasant company in forever with a single exception, he literally hasn't been socialised as a child, he might have knowledge of demon communication ways, but again, nobody to practice them with. Dante has consciously hermited himself away, and as for demonic habits - he can be in SDT and he would just close his eyes and keep chanting "i'm human i'm human i'm human". Nero is the only one who can actually communicate with other people, if his temper does not get in the way.

All of that was to say noone here has any communication experience, and definitely no "secret"-communication-type-available-only-to-them experience.

The twins do have incentive to develop some kind of secret language between themselves, though with how demon-averse Dante is that's hard to imagine. Still possible though! Nero will have trouble with this though, as he is not yet a regular in the company of the loser twins,but they might just drive him insane enough to try to learn and emulate them xD Then again, he doesn't really need it unless he is talking to those losers, and he Really needs them to learn to talk with Words Through Their Mouths, instead of making demon sounds at him...
