Playing DMC4 is so difficult. Not because it's hard (it's actually one of the easier games for me, I'm still bad but the devil bringer is carrying me) but because Nero gives me insane cuteness aggression. I need to get a chew toy of him to bite istg it's getting bad. this fucking baby and his sincerity and how much fun he has with his cool freaking sword and the way he hides his arm behind his back because he knows it marks him as an 'other' and his obscure backstory baby what do they have you doing and how he just wants to love and be loved but the world is so awful so he needs to become strong in order to protect Kyrie OOOAAAAGGGHHH MY BABY

My favorite hypothetical post-Red Robin 2009 universe-doesn't-reset arc for Tam is that she joins the Birds of Prey, has her bi awakening, does some stuff for BoP that's just as fucked up as Tim not telling her Lucius's death was fake, realizes this, reconciles, firms up their friendship while going on superhero team-ups, maybe they date, gets some goofy adventures with the younger BoP members and some save-the-world level adventures with the established members, and gets like fifteen different versions of her Unternet outfit in varying levels of practicality.

Not joking when I say there is something... healing(?) about the Devil May Cry games and its storytelling.

Yea it's stupid goofy 90% of the time but it's also so SINCERE. The cheesiest, most ridiculous thing could be happening but the whole time it's saying with full confidence, "Hey. this is awesome right? :) that slow mo was really cool right? :)"

And youre like, "you sonovabitch you got me. that was so cool."

DMC3 for example. Dante driving a motorcycle up a vertical tower and then upside down as the wall breaks off? Of course he can do that. He's Dante.

Vergil doing literally anything? Nerdy. Showstopping. Spectacular.

Silly twins being silly together? Best thing I've ever seen in my life.

Yea this franchise has been memed to high heaven, but that's because it is just so goddamn over the top and genuine. Irony poisoning has been talked to death but it bares repeating just how annoying it is that every new piece of media has to be the first to get in on the joke like its embarrassed in itself and its not cute anymore!

Your story can be the most self-indulgent, cheesy thing ever but if you go all in, the fans who love it will REALLY love it.

#the best part of every devil may cry game is that the game firmly believes that it is the coolest thing that's ever existed #and they all commit hard enough that it becomes reality. this is especially the case in DMC3 (which I am obssessed with) but every game #has at least one 'what is this...oh wait this is awesome' moment. And every character has one of those moments too.#Vergil is just as corny as Dante with his stupid little 'Daddy's little spell' and 'Preparations for the bash'. V reads poetry mid combat #and will frequently kill bosses while reciting a verse. Urizen is a bit less Like That but he still drags Dante into the 'hey remember the #most traumatic moment of your life that defined who you are? Yeah I don't really remember that I'm just being dramatic.'#Hell even Nelo Angelo emerges out of Dante's fucking reflection then snaps open a window and jumps out of it to fight Dante outside #and TAUNTS YOU HE TAUNTS YOU!!! Every version of Vergil is melodramatic af and it's awesome because he MEANS IT.#Nero? Everything about him in DMC4 is awesome. He has a motorcycle sword and he has a demon arm and he can manifest a Stand #and he fights demons with one arm to see Kyrie sing and he screams when he loses her and UGGHHH I LOVE HIM MY BABY #Nero is such a sincere character and it's why he's my favorite. Dante and Vergil have their masks. Nero is exactly who he is and he cannot #even pretend to be chill. He gets impatient at a sermon? Bye. Dante calls him deadweight once? He's pissed a month later and makes it known #He wants to save his family? He spontaneously manifests his full devil trigger and screams 'IM NOT LETTING YOU DIE'.#Nero screaming 'fuck you' at Vergil is genuinely the kind of shit that's gonna save this doomed af family istg.#Lady? Oh she has 80 bajillion guns on her at any given time. Does it make sense? No but you are going to believe it because she rules.#She's the only person in DMC3 who isn't making jokes for half the runtime but she's still just The Most and it's awesome.#Trish is so campy in DMC1. She is the most over the top femme fatalle and then she's like 'hey what if I had a character arc'?#and she does it. She gets CRUCIFIED AND STILL JUMPS IN FRONT OF DANTE TO SAVE HIM!!!!#Every character is just so much all the time and the game looks at you and goes 'they are so cool right'? And you go 'yep. they rock.'
