Watermarking
-Corpyright-
The Copyright act gives the creators of musical, artistic or literary work the right to choose how their material can be used. The rights cover; copying/adapting, renting/lending, broadcasting and public performances. The creator can also have the right to be identified as the author.
Copyright is used when an individual or organisation creates a piece of work, and applies to pieces regarded as an original.
The act refers to the creation of the piece, rather than the idea behind the piece. For example the idea for a book would not be protected, but the actual content of the book written would be. In short, someone is entitled to create their own book/piece with the same idea or concept, but can not directly copy or adapt the original.
Short phrases, titles, and names are not normally covered as they are not considered unique or adequate, but a creation like a logo which combines things and is unique could be, as with artwork.
Normally an individual will own the rights, but if the work is completed as part of employment, the work belongs to the body that hired the individual. For freelance or commissioned work rights will usually belong to the creator unless there is an arrangement to change the owner.
Watermarks are often used of images of original pieces, this is to avoid work being directly copied and incorporates a digital signature showing who is the rightful owner of the work.
Pitt Rivers - Final Outcome
Based on my research into the African Tribal masks at Pitt Rivers - showing my research into the ideas of symbolising. I have decided to have my mask be a display piece, which symbolises the idea of a Wise Woman.
The design has a large head to emphasise it is full of knowledge, aswell as a large eye in the center of the forehead; symbolising a being that sees all. The composition is very open, giving a sense of invitation and comfort, and all decoration and detailed design is concentrated above the brow of the mask, emphasising the importance of the large knowledge filled head, which does not need a detailed face to serve its symbolic purpose. Though the overall design is kept rather simple, as any other components would defer the viewer from the purpose of the mask.
Melted vinyl, collage, ink design
Pitt Rivers - Final Trials
Here I have used previously thought of relevant techniques and tested how they work with 3D models.
I found the paper mache material looks good, but is too flimsy and does not work well in a bigger scale
I like the idea of using a moulded vinyl in my mask design; with the hidden music adding to the African masks concepts. Applied collage of ripped pieces of book pages to decorate and further include the idea of knowledge, and tested acrylic paint small motif

Pitt Rivers -
Explore artefacts found at the Pitt Rivers museum and decide a subject to research and develop further
I have chosen to focus on tribal masks, and their properties and purposes - conveying emotion, symbolism and how the masks were used.
I explored techniques using mixed media samples, photographs, photoshop editing, paper mache, embroidery, embellishment, ink, fabric and bleach. Also the use of shape in some sketches gathering ideas.
Large Pieces Textile, applique, chenille, sewing machine, montage, abstraction, acrylic paint, photoshop, oil pastel, collage, felt tip pen These are all pieces which i have completed separately from my book work, final Pieces and Design Sheets For the unit which included creating Design Sheets, I focused a lot on abstracting images by simplifying them into very few shades of unnatural colour. I feel that although this method is very simple, it creates an interesting and developed looking outcome. I have used mainly acrylic, some collage, with human figures as the focus point- taking note of where to place each tone by only looking at shadows, neutral tones and highlights. I also experimented with using photoshop, and combining the two medias together, to create partial images merging into one.
