Working on this short film was quite a ride. Having had a bit of a rough start when I had to come up with a good story, once I managed to write a good script I couldn’t wait to put everything from paper to screen. Being the director of your own film is definitely not an easy task, but once I started sorting out the pre-production phase, the production part was very easy going and with three days of hard work, I managed to finish filming with the help of my DOP Daryl Martijn.
One of the biggest issues during the whole production was allocating filming dates to suite all the actor’s schedules, but with hard work and dedication I managed to make a filming schedule that suited everyone. Once that was sorted, filming kicked off and without even knowing I was working on post-production of the film. Whilst most students decided to leave editing in the hands of others, I couldn’t help but edit the short myself.
Editing being one of my biggest passions in the media industry, I felt that I should have been the one to put the story together having come this far in my studies. Working on post myself, I regret nothing. I took opinions from a lot of people constantly and was open for any changes to make my edit a better one throughout the whole process. Changes were applied and I couldn’t be happier with the final result. The colour grading and special effects were done by my DOP Daryl.
I believe there will obviously always be room for improvement, after all this is the first script I ever wrote and the first time I directed a short film by myself. I look forward for future productions and I can’t wait to share my story with the world.
