What did Danai do to fix the spin off?
What do Danai and the guy who play rick thing of Gimple? They can't hate him to allow him to be part of the spinoff.
She rescued AMC from the disaster that was a 3-feature theatrical release, a.k.a 'the Rick movies.' Gimple kept writing treatments/outlines/scripts (I'm not sure how far he got before starting over each time) for the first movie, which everyone at AMC hated. Rick's storyline needed to be wrapped up so they made the decision to have someone else (Danai) step in to develop a show out of the detritus of Gimple's failed script and treatment. It was prettied up as "getting the band together again" to save face.
It makes for good PR, especially in the wake of how badly the Caryl-turned-Daryl spinoff had been managed.
Ghostwriting happens in the industry. Getting credit is somewhat weird to begin with as you can provide a lot of the plot when the season is broken and never get acknowledged for it. Similarly, you can have your name on an episode of which you wrote precious little because it's been through so many revisions.
As an actor, you can't pick who covers a show and it would've looked bad (to investors) if the studio had removed the showrunner from that spinoff too. I can't imagine Andy demanding someone to be fired (he's an actual nice guy) but he also didn't foot the bill for TOWL, so he had no leverage to ask for a showrunner of his choice.
