Color adds interest to this basic home design. From building houses for over 17 years across both Sims 1 and Sims 2, my experience has been, if you have a simple layout you can make it look much more appealing and interesting by using different colors, and/or roof lines.
Let’s look at that floor plan now! This home is very lightly furnished, so you can pick whether to stick with the “mission” accents, or go completely rustic.
First floor: Kitchen, dining room, office, living room, and bathroom.
Second floor: 3 Bedrooms, and a bathroom.
I’ve run this lot through the Lot Compressor and the Lot Cleaner so any random references to sims that aren’t there should be removed. I also added a shiny custom thumbnail so it has even more curb appeal in your Lots and Houses bin! 🌟

Sunflower Cottage | CC Free Sims 2 Residential Lot
This cute little cabin is built on a 2x2 lot and makes perfect retreat for your sims who enjoy a rustic vacation experience. It has 2 bedrooms and 1 bath, and will set your sims back just a bit under §59,000.
You could also choose to have a family live here year-round. This home features a fireplace for extra comfort in the winter, and heaps of cheery flowers to brighten your face in the summer. You can never spend too much time surrounded by nature! 🥰
This cozy cabin is loosely based on cabins up in the Northern US. Those metal roofs are essential for helping the snow slide off easily as it piles up in winter (not that your sims will have this problem). Most of the homes I've seen have blue or green metal roofs, but occasionally there will be a red roof. I can't help but smile when looking at this home and I hope you will too. 😊
(Yes, the windows in the back are a different color from the ones in the front and side. The lighter ones seemed to match better in the back and the more red-hued ones looked better with the reddish brick, and the railing.)

Make hair and clothing default replacements without wrestling SimPE.
I've always loved making default replacements, but the actual work in SimPE was... well... annoying. So I went looking for a better way to do it, and when I couldn't find one that clicked, I started building my own. 🛠️
This is very much a personal project. I'm sharing it because this community is far smarter than I am when it comes to custom content and default replacements, and I'd rather build this out in the open with your help than pretend I've got it all figured out. So please, let me know about any and all issues you run into.

Why I made this
Every time I sat down to make a default replacement, the SimPE workflow felt like more friction than the actual creative part. I wanted something that got out of the way and just let me swap the thing I wanted to swap. This tool is my attempt at that, built for myself first, shared because I figured I'm probably not the only one who feels this way.
⚠️ Read this first: it's alpha
I can't emphasize this enough: this is both a personal project and an alpha program. Please expect things to not work.
I'd happily use this for personal projects, but I'd hold off on creating default replacements you intend to share with the community. Not because the files it produces are bad, but because they may not be optimized or follow every best-practice yet. That said, each update gets better and better.
So: if you want to help improve the tool, share feedback, report bugs, and you don't mind that it's not perfect, this is absolutely for you. 💜 If you want this to be as flawless as your manual SimPE method and you can't stand the thought of hitting a single issue... it's probably best to wait, or just use SimPE for now.
What it does (and doesn't, yet)
Right now it handles hair and clothing. Most of my time and testing has gone into hair, so that's the solid part. Clothing is very much a work in progress. Expect the rough edges to be rougher on the clothing side.
How to download and use it
I try not to gate-keep anything behind a Discord (I personally hate joining a whole server for one single thing). But because this is alpha, I'm constantly pushing out new versions, and the Discord is genuinely the best way to make sure you're on the latest one no matter when you're reading this post.
It's also just easier for everyone: Tumblr is rude as hell and already shadow-banned me once for sending links in DMs, so having a place to chat and report problems directly makes life better for all of us.

A note on what I'm actually asking for
I am not a professional software engineer. I'm a Sims lover who also likes learning new things, that's it. Your help genuinely means everything here. For those of you who are far smarter than I am with default replacements, please send any and all info my way: what works, what breaks, what a "proper" file should look like. I really want to make this a solid, easy tool for default replacements, and that starts with all of us.
So don't be shy. Bugs, suggestions, corrections, best-practices I've completely missed, send them over. 💜

I've recolored every bed that EA has created in a pack or expansion that:
1) already had wood recolors
2) didn't have wood recolors, but I felt that wood recolors suited them
For the colors: I am using Dynamite, Depth Charge, Shrapnel, Safety Fuse and Time Bomb by @pooklet, and Nesert and Honey by Io aka @serabiet.
Please check out the Add-On's I've recommended! They are meshes made by community members that will use these textures too. Or, they are bits of CC that go along with these nicely!
notes: sleek and modern, I've used the original wood texture for the main part, and made a new wood texture (sourced from the wood texture provided) for the 'detail' bit. Shine removed.

notes: oh I really have a love/hate relationship with this one. It has a good Comfort score and looks semi-ordinary. But its original textures and mapping are :/ The fabric headboard comes in (I hope) complimentary, muted colors.
