             hope.  it can be so many things.  the breath of life.  a weapon.  a shield.  poison.  whatever shape it might take within her soul,  she cannot recall any longer.  she gave it up long ago.  and somehow,  he holds onto it.  it bleeds out from him as if it’s the very stuff flowing in his veins.  ❛  what makes you so certain of it?  ❜  her eyes are hungry when they study him,  the thought pushed from her mind to his.  she would like to believe as strongly as he does.  but merlin has proven himself to be a rare exception in a cold world.  

                       his   expression   changes   from   that   snarky   look,   to   one   of   disbelief   at   how   this   stranger   spoke   to   him   —him!   the   son   of   the   king,   the   crown   heir   to   camelot,   the   prince.   he   begins   to   laugh,   a   chuckle   built   from   that   disbelief   as   he   looks   over   his   shoulder   at   the   band   of   knights-in-training   around   him,   them   too   were   laughing.

❛   you   can’t   talk   to   me   like   that.   ❜    he   hands   his   sword   to   one   the   knight   and   steps   closer   to   the   stranger.   he   was   new   to   camelot,   had   to   be.   arthur   didn’t   recognise   him   and   here   he   was,   lingering   outside   the   palace   gate.   having   stepped   out   from   the   castle!   instead   of   walking   towards   it.   ❛   i   may   be   an   ass.   but   i’d   never   have   a   friend   that   could   be   so   …   stupid.   tell   me,   merlin.❜   his   arms   cross   over   his   chest.   ❛   what   brings   you   to   camelot?   ❜

                    𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐝𝐨𝐦 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐟𝐟 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥, now even that was beginning to wither away. Why did his mother send him here? Out of all the cities that Gaius had to work within, it had to be the one with the stuck-up knights  —  Little did he know about the importance of the man that stood before him.

was   this   really   happening?   this   all   feels   familiar,   like   they’ve   been   in   this   situation   before.   and   they   most   certainly   had,   in   a   place   far   far   away   from   here.    the   more   he   speaks,   the   more   aubrey   blushes   ——   but   she   doesn’t   care   if   he   sees   anymore.   she   moves   closer   to   him   as   they   walk,   her   smile   only   growing   as   time   passes.    “   well,   rehearsals   are   done   for   the   week   and   then   i   have   my   shifts   with   your   patient   ——   it   might   be   easier   to   ask   when   you’re   free.   ”

another  traveller,   perhaps?     not  uncommon  to  find  some  who  travels  from  place  to  place,    but  to  be  out  of  his  time  too  made  this  interaction  tantalisingly  unique.     “   i  have  a  hopper.     a  time  travelling  machine.     built  it  myself.    and  you?   ”

❝       accept    fear   .      ❞       she   questions,    he   answers,    shedding  some  light  on  how  she  should   navigate  this  new  life.       fear  was   a   great   feeling ,    she’s   taken  in  it   before,   coddled   other  peoples   emotions, bled   them,  ate  them  -  yet  never   addressed  her  own    fears.    ❝      what   if    what  I  fear  is  already  in  me  ?    Has    been  in  me  ?   ❞

          “No, I suppose not.” They stood now as perfect strangers, he did not know of the royal titles held to her name yet he had helped her all the same. Thought to her that was the truest show of character. He still helped regardless of who she was. “Just up this way.” Oh she knows she will not be able to go anywhere without an escort now, even though she had not ventured very far. “I do not think I ever got your name–”

𝐇𝐎𝐌𝐄   𝐈𝐒   𝐀   𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓   𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐌𝐈𝐓𝐓𝐄𝐃   𝐓𝐎   𝐓𝐇𝐄   𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐕𝐄,   cemetery   dirt   slipping   between   her   fingertips,   about   her   feet   a   garden   of   chrysanthemums.   Ivory   the   colour   of   grief,   a   sickness   infesting   the   heart   (  𝙙𝙤𝙣'𝙩   𝙮𝙤𝙪   𝙨𝙚𝙚?   𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨   𝙨𝙪𝙘𝙝   𝙖𝙨   𝙨𝙝𝙚   𝙙𝙤   𝙣𝙤𝙩   𝙜𝙚𝙩   𝙩𝙤   𝙗𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙜.   𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨   𝙖𝙡𝙡   𝙨𝙝𝙚   𝙞𝙨   𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙝𝙮   𝙤𝙛  ).   Solitude   her   curse,   demanded   by   the   blood   still   staining   her   palms.

Here   though,   there   is   a   second   chance,   the   possibility   to   begin   again.   A   long   forgotten   joy   planting   itself   amongst   the   weeds.   𝚈𝙾𝚄   𝙰𝚁𝙴   𝙰   𝚁𝙰𝚈   𝙾𝙵   𝙷𝙾𝙿𝙴,   𝚈𝙾𝚄𝚁   𝚆𝙰𝚁𝙼𝚃𝙷   𝙲𝙷𝙰𝚂𝙸𝙽𝙶   𝚃𝙷𝙴   𝙸𝙲𝙴   𝙱𝙾𝚄𝙽𝙳   𝚃𝙾   𝙷𝙴𝚁   𝙱𝙾𝙽𝙴𝚂.   Copper   gaze   drenched   in   disbelief,   her   hand   seeking   out   his.   ❛  It's   ––––   it’s   perfect.   It’s   more   than   I   deserve…  ❜
