i'll make it rain blood

This is my secret Santa gift for @staccatic I hope you enjoy. And happy holidays!

The day started off great. It was slightly chilly but not too cold. It was just a regular winter day so Takao asked Midorima to help him look for gifts to give at Christmas. Everything was fine until they got to the topic of oha asa. Scorpio was ranked first today. Which was fine with Midorima who was ranked eighth. The problem was his lucky item. Or lack of one. He needed a significant other. That was when he started to worry. So when he told Takao his problem he didn’t expect him to take it seriously. 

 “So Shin-chan needs a significant other eh?” he asked teasingly. Midorima felt his jaw clench as he stuffed his hands into his pockets and signed in annoyance, his breath disappearing into the winter air. 

 “Alright alright, I understand.” he replied as he placed his gloved hand on his chin in thought. They began walking in silence before Takao stopped and turned to his friend. Midorima looked sideways and raised his eyebrow.

 “Okay so I have a solution. It took me a minute but I have one!” the raven haired teen said. He swallowed as he continued to walk forward slowly. He was nervous about confessing his feelings to his best friend. He knew him like the back of his own hand but he wasn’t ready for the possibility of his feelings being turned down.

 “I suggest you use me as your lucky item of the day!” he exclaimed. Midorima could tell that something in his tone was off. 

 “Takao we’re not dating so how could you possibly be my significant other?” he asked as he turned to look at him.  

 “That’s where you’re wrong Shin-chan!”

 “Don’t call me that.” 

“Okay okay.” 

“So what do you propose?”

“Well today seems the perfect day to confess.” he said with a smile. 

“Takao-“  

“Let me finish. Scorpios have great luck today so I’m pretty confident about my chances.” he said as he walked until he was in front of him.  

 “So what do you say Shin will you accept my feelings and be my boyfriend?” he asked as he looked to see his best friend with a blush in his face. He felt a smile twitch onto his face but it dropped instantly when Midorima brushed his shoulder as he walked past him. 

 “Shin?” he asked as he walked to catch up with the tsundere. He walked with his hands in his pockets and looked down at the ground. He had several worries run through his head. Was he too forward? Does he not reciprocate his feelings? Those vanished from his mind as he was pulled into an alleyway with his back against the brick wall. He looked up to see Midorima looking away bashfully.  

 “Did you really mean your confession?” he asked obviously distressed. His warm breathe visible in the  chilly weather. 

 “Yes, I did.” He replied trying to sound extra firm. He felt shaky hands being placed on his shoulders. When he looked Midorima was looking away from his eyes. He started to blush as he felt his breathe fan over his face. The two leaned closer and bumped noses awkwardly. After a moment of them both stuttering he saw how distressed Shintarou was. He placed his hand on his cheek as they glanced at each other’s eyes.  They leaned forward again and closed their eyes as their lips touched. Smooth lips glided over slightly chapped ones. Their teeth clacked awkwardly but they felt their heart speed up as they explored one another. They pulled apart and looked each other in the eye before Midorima looked away, earning a soft chuckle from his friend. 

“My feelings are genuine Shintarou. I have always admired you.” Takao said as he looked up into the face before him. His face was supporting a heavy blush and his glasses were slightly foggy. His emerald eyes were pointed downwards and he could see the long eyelashes behind the frames of his glasses. He felt his shaky breathe and the occasional twitch of his friends fingers on his shoulders. Behind him beyond the brick wall was a city of bustling lights, prepared for the holiday season. The daily life of the busy city created a background noise as he focused back on the male before him. He was surprised to find him studying his own face and felt himself flush slightly in embarrassment. 

When they connected their eyes once again Takao was surprised of the intensity of his friends gaze. Midorima pulled Takao closer as he felt him put his hands on his shoulders. He couldn’t believe that he was gazing at his friend like this, after kissing him, in an alleyway no less. But those thoughts left his mind as he felt hands travel to his cheeks. Nervously he slowly began to lower his head until he was right above Takao’s face. He felt his knees weaken and put  hand on the wall next to Takao’s head for support. He felt him slowly bring their lips together again and felt his hands wrap around his neck and traveled up into his hair. He moved his hand to his cheek when he felt his lips being teased by Takao’s. 

 Their hearts began to race as the kiss became heated. Takao had taken dominance of Midorima’s and began to explore his mouth. He smirked when he heard sounds coming from the back of Midorima’s throat as he played with his tongue. The hand on the wall traveled to Takao’s side and slowly moved up and down as the continued. Small gaps could be heard when they broke apart and the occasional smack of lips, much to Midorima’s embarrassment. After what seemed forever they broke apart.  Midorima’s lips were slightly swollen and his blush died down. Takao’s faced were slightly dusted with a rosy hue as well. They held each other for a few moments before they untangled themselves from one another.

You know… I’ve been thinking about this scene, too. I kind of understand (even if I have my things against the character, specially after Razukan-Shuutoku game) Akashi’s advice, since, as a player, you use the emotions that other players reflects in their bodies to anticipate their next move (Kuroko himself kind of used that to anticipate Kise’s movements, at the end of Seirin-Kaijou game, reading through Kise’s behavior patron).

So, if Kuroko wanted to be in the court like a real “phantom”, he needed to put the attention of the other players far away from him. And he wouldn’t be able to do that if he showed his emotions. Showing his emotions would be an invitation to everybody to notice him, and consequently read through his next pass, making it useless.

However, even being conscious of this… I’m still wondering if Akashi’s advice only influenced Kuroko’s player self, or actually changed something in his deep inside self. The Kuroko we’ve seen until this moment, in the Teiko arc, he’s really expressive, isn’t he? He openly cried, and he openly smiled… We saw his happy face, but also his sad, and his worried and surprised and excited ones. But, the Kuroko in the present… He’s not as expressive as then.

Actually, which is Kuroko’s usual expression now, in the present? Not only on the court, but in his daily life? What does it looks like?

That’s what makes me think that, after all, Kuroko took the advice of “don’t openly show your emotions” not only for him as a player, but as a person too. He kind of mimicked his player self with his daily one, so he turned into a “phantom” all the time. Anyway… I wouldn’t say that was because of Akashi’s advice, at least at all. Maybe it was the custom… Or maybe, while his time as a “phatom”, Kuroko experienced so much pain he ended using the “not showing of emotions” as a shield.

Maybe, that’s why we are only being able to see Kuroko’s expressions again now, when he has already spent a long time with Seirin. Because Seirin broke the barrier Kuroko built between the world and himself, giving him enough confidence to start showing his feelings (not only happiness, but sadness too) in an openly way again. The big proof of that is precisely Teiko arc. Kuroko wouldn’t open his wounds of the past again if he didn’t trust in his team… If he didn’t want a new beginning with them.
