so!! i have joint ocs w a friend (@lemonade-kitkats) so partial credit on everything goes to her as well.
the main group of ocs are five teenagers: nico mejía (the mc), finn o'connell, maggie colbert, lyra pascal, and cecily otto. they're all starting their senior year of high school when nico moves to bluehaven and wild stuff starts to happen
basically it's small town horror! bluehaven is a small island town in the us pacific northwest (washington state, based off of friday harbor). the town was built in the early 1840s and was settled by a select group of people who called themselves the children of the stars. they believed in the zodiacs like they were real deities (so like.. astrology but taken to the absolute maximum), but the catch is that they are in fact very real. instead of being cool fun deities though, they're monsters! think starkid lords in black in a way. long story short, the town grew and eventually authorities tried to eradicate all cult activity, but it never went away fully, and people still follow the zodiacs and act as their vessels etc etc.
so nico moves in, immediately meets the other four, and shenanigans and romance and murder and monsters ensue! PLEASE send more questions if you want to know more about the characters/world/town/cult because i'm genuinely dying to talk about them
HELP the thing is i named the cult before i was like SUPER into starkid and at the time i think i had only seen like.. tgwdlm so any resemblance is shockingly entirely accidental
SO THE CHARACTERS THEMSELVES! assume all of them are 17 but will turn 18 at some point throughout their senior year :) i'll also add their star sign since it's relevant to the story, just not relevant to their personalities as much. if you see something you want elaborated on i WILL elaborate no questions asked. this will be long i'm so sorry, but i've left out family info and their personal storylines so if you want more of that info, i have it on hand as we speak
so nico, our mc, is from pennsylvania! he's a city boy, born in philadelphia, with mexican heritage. he's a bit stand-offish, a little bit closed off and a lone wolf who doesn't always make friends easily, which is why his cross-country move was hard on him. he does enjoy having people around though, he really hates being alone and feeling isolated (but equally really hates asking for help). he's a gemini, born june 18th
finn, like the girls, was born and raised in bluehaven. he's captain of the boys volleyball team, and is the principal's son! he leans more on the extroverted side, but finds himself a little uncomfortable in large groups of people. he's acquaintances with a lot of his peers, but he doesn't have a ton of super close friends aside from maggie, lyra, and cecily (and nico, once they meet), so he's had trouble feeling like he fits in. he also reeks of abandonment issues i'm sorry my boy (but lowkey valid he's been going through it for a while). finn is a capricorn and his bday is december 31st!
lyra is the oldest of the bunch, she's a scorpio born on october 27th. her parents moved to bluehaven several years before she was born, and her family owns their own bakery, lovingly titled 'the pie chart' since her dad used to be a college math professor. she's ever the optimist, and is usually the one her friends go to when they need a friendly face, a kind word, or advice. her main interests are both astronomy and astrology, but she has more of a casual interest in astrology, nowhere near cult level lol. she's very friendly to everyone around her, but she doesn't often talk to her friends about her feelings/anxieties, so she tends to keep secrets from them, both accidentally and intentionally. she and maggie were created by @lemonade-kitkats so i give her all the credit for their existences
maggie is more on the alt side, and is fairly in the middle of intro/extroverted. if you've ever seen school spirits, she is genuinely just. maddie nears. completely unintentionally, again, but she's basically a carbon copy and neither me or kat did that on purpose bro. by the time we realized it, it was 2024 and she'd existed for a year so we didn't want to change anything about her.... ANYWAY if you haven't seen it, i can sum up maggie's personality a little. she's blunt, kind of keeps to herself aside from her small group, and isn't the most popular person around school. maggie runs track for her high school, and is a major horror movie enthusiast (she has so many thoughts on obsession). she's more interested in the macabre side of things than any of the others, but she still has a sense of whimsy to her. her family has been in bluehaven for decades, and her bday is december 3rd so she's a sagittarius
cecily is the photographer for the school yearbook, and she's very much on the extroverted side! she loves people, and will strike up a conversation with a stranger in line at the grocery store if she feels like it. she was raised by an artist and an english professor (she and lyra's dads were college friends), so she's always had an appreciation for artists and writers, as well as an appreciation for living a slower life. she loves the ocean and fish, and used to want to be a mermaid when she grew up, so when she got older she really leaned into the mermaid-core aesthetic. she's the most anxious out of the group, not necessarily in social settings, just more generally since she's dealt with anxiety and panic attacks for a lot of her life. she's a pisces, born march 8th
