Ocean Vuong - On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous
Everyone talks about how communication is the key...
But why doesn’t anyone talk about how hard it can be to communicate?
To tell someone they hurt you? Because hurt always comes from someone you loved.
Why doesn’t anyone talk about how scared you can get to express your feelings because you’re scared to hurt the one who hurt you?
Why doesn’t anyone talk about how you can be willing to suppress every emotion just to nurture the long lost feeble bond?
— Richard Siken, I had a dream about you

I want to sleep, I want dreams to pull me from this world and make me forget. To stop the memories from swirling around me. To put an end to this ache that consumes me.
— Carrie Ryan
But the heart has its own memory and I have forgotten nothing.
— Albert Camus, The Fall
“I loved him very much - more than I could trust myself to say - more than words had power to express.”
— Charlotte Brontë
You're important to me. I think if there's anything that will last forever, it's that. Whether we separate, stay in touch or rarely speak again, you will always be that little someone I really do care for, that I would sacrifice everything for to protect and keep safe.
— Beau Taplin, The Promise
“But don’t forget who you really are. And I’m not talking about your so-called real name. All names are made up by someone else, even the one your parents gave you. You know who you really are. When you’re alone at night, looking up at the stars, or maybe lying in your bed in total darkness, you know that nameless person inside you.”
— Louis Sachar

I used to be a hole in the ground
But who can say what's best? That's why you need to grab whatever chance you have of happiness where you find it, and not worry about other people too much. My experience tells me that we get no more than two or three such chances in a life time, and if we let them go, we regret it for the rest of our lives.
— Haruki Murakami, Norwegian Wood
In honor of Lord Byron’s birthday I would like to remind you all of the time that Shelley and Keats, having not heard from him for some time, became concerned for his safety and it was determined that Shelley would go looking for him. Keats received a letter some time later that Shelley had found him in Venice, where he’d been having so much sex that he’d nearly died from malnourishment and dehydration. Keats’ entire response amounted to essentially, “You should probably have let him.”
“I found him, he’s in a gutter.” “Well go put him back”
Look at them tags!
If you’re distressed by it, it’s an intrusive thought. If you’re disgusted by it, it was a groinal response. Your intrusive thoughts are not you, even if your brain tries to convince you that they are. You are safe. You are ok.
Dead Poets Society (1989) dir. Peter Weir

“All good things in life are fragile and easily lost.”
- Khaled Hosseini, And the Mountains Echoed
Normalise liking poetry because you like the way it sounds and art because you think its beautiful. You don’t have to understand the deeper meaning of something to appreciate it - poetry is bloody difficult to analyse and art requires an extensive knowledge of movements and artists to properly get - so please just wonder around art galleries and decide which pieces you’d buy if you could, and read out lines of poetry simply because they have a nice ring to them.
