#hot take incoming #i don't think kane parsons thought a lot about clark's character being a black man #which means that a lot of people are reading into this story in a way that i think is racist #where they're just like 'clark is just a mean misogynist and he's the bad guy #i don't think he's the bad guy at all i think he is a person trapped by the weight of expectations under capitalism and patriarchy #but like tbh i think my ability to read that intepretation in this movie #is 100% because of chiwetel ejiofor's performance #he's just so good and conveys so much depth #this scene especially was just so gut wrenching #what if you found a place so completely removed from time and space that you could finally be accepted as you are?#you don't have to worry about needing to change or needing to live up to anyone's expectation or even money for once #all you have to do is slowly give up every aspect of your humanity until you are wholly unrecognizable from your true self #whew
