One day on a case, Mai starts humming some annoyingly catchy pop song.  At first, Naru pays no mind to it, he’s never been interested in music anyway.  But after a few hours stuck with her in base, it starts to get on his nerves.  Finally, he finds some excuse to send her out and breathes a sigh of relief.

At last, silence.  Silence, except for the sound of Lin’s typing.  The sound of typing and…

Lin is now humming the song.

Naru gives him a long stare, before shaking his head and trying to focus on work again.  Minutes pass.

Lin keeps humming.

Unable to take it anymore, Naru leaves the base and takes refuge in the bathroom.  He breathes a sigh of relief.  Sweet silence.  His reflection smiles at him, so Naru puts his hand on the bathroom mirror.

Gene, about this case…

But he stops mid-thought, eyes wide.

Gene is humming the song.

“Not you too.”

With a growl, he returns to base.  Lin looks up as he enters.  “Naru, I’m picking up a noise from the bedroom upstairs.”

“Turn up the volume.”

They huddle next to the speaker and listen.  They hear a faint, scratchy, otherworldly voice…

And it is humming the song.

That’s it.  He gives up.

“Hey Naru, I finished recording all the temperatures,” Mai says as she returns to base.  She hands him the clipboard and Naru gives a short nod.

“Anything else?”

“Tea.”

“Right.”  She turns to leave again, but then freezes.  Is that…?  No, it couldn’t be…

bonus: “I feel it too.”

“He blacked out for a bit, Ren thinks, or he went somewhere else on that second plane of existence, his already fractured psyche crumbling even further. When he’d come to, Unkar Plutt was ripped in half.”

FIRST LOVE, love at first sight, usually dynamics where the girl is the one to fall in love first, love at first sight is cultivated as she gradually gets to know the person and comes to truly love the person for who he is, potential for heartbreak, but there is strength in love, girl remains faithful, guy is usually the cool type character or perhaps callous, and you feel for the girl as she gets her heart broken, and you don’t know how it happens and even the guy doesn’t know how it happens, he wasn’t thinking about love at all but somehow he comes to consider the girl an irreplaceable part of his life now, and the payoff is so so so sweet
