Unfortunately there's no way to concisely translate some particular words' real world correlation though so uhhh that'll just be a footnote. I'm honestly not even sure how to talk about it without a full essay.

I saw someone joke "new German national anthem just dropped and we can actually sing the whole thing and not have it be weird" but that's literally what this is in regards to presentation and almost certainly writing/development as well. There's something very, very intentional about "Freiheit und Recht" being echoed multiple times in "Das Favoniuslied" and no mentions of "Einigkeit" at all whatsoever despite the more communal nature of the song's use.

Mondstadt holds a very strong cultural emphasis on freedom, but not individualism. It would be surprising that "Das Favoniuslied" in its referencing the German national anthem would shirk "Einigkeit" of all three tenets. However, "unity" in a national sense is not something Mondstadt emphasises at all, and is, in fact, one of the more iffy ideas within the Germanosphere that Mihoyo deliberately subverted in their presentation of Mondstadt.

The "unity" Decarabian forced the people of Old Mondstadt into was antithetical to Mondstadt's foremost ideal of "freedom," which is also why I believe "Freiheit" was placed before "Recht" in the Favoniuslied rather than after. (Additionally, Mondstadt's more recent history with the Lawrence Clan would definitely deter plenty of people from regarding even interpersonal forms of unity as a priority.)

Everything from the quests, achievements, music, and character names in Mondstadt show that the writers pay close attention to small details and have an extensive scope of reference regarding the art, cultures, history, and politics of the Germanosphere and are very intentional about what goes where, so to speak. While this isn't as explicitly clear in the English (holy lyre der what now??) and even German translations of the game (RIP Varka's "Sturm und Drang" mode), I would think English- and German-speaking players would be more attuned to the very particular cultural cues and references Mihoyo has used in Mondstadt. For example, "Quest focusing on death and time that's kicked off at a sanitorium on a hill that a guy named Mann tells you about"? Holy shit. They put Der Zauberberg in Genshin Impact. At least a few people on the writing and music teams are obsessed with the Tagelied form to the point of referencing/using it at least 5 times so far throughout the game.
