what world do people imagine their fursonae exist inside of. I love how undefined it is. some people are like "this is my sona Hryàxe, a hybrid dragon with ice powers who has been alive through three astral ages and toppled many kingdoms of men" and someone else is like "this is my sona he's an arctic fox named blurt and hes a barista in Toronto who loves to play mahjong." And then blurt and hryàxe are lovingly having sex on a tropical beach somewhere. and I'm like how'd they get to the beach
When we were children, my sister had private music lessons at her violin teacher’s house. I only visited there once, but I still remember that afternoon. The teacher had an artificial pond in her yard, a large beautiful thing with lily pads and plant life. And in the pond, there were goldfish. I had never seen such enormous goldfish.
I spent several minutes just staring at them (and trying to convince them to bite my fingers.) When my sister’s violin lesson ended, her teacher came out to the yard and explained that these goldfish were the same small creatures that were often unfortunately sold in plastic bags at state fairs. They were only about two inches long apiece, when she bought them and put them in the new, empty pond. In essence, they were like every goldfish I had seen before, but they had been given a much larger, much richer environment in which to flourish. As a result, they had grown into some of the most remarkable, vibrant creatures my twelve-year-old self had ever met with. All because of a pond.
Funny what lessons children remember. My sister doesn’t play the violin anymore, but that was the first time I caught a glimpse of the overwhelming extent to which it matters, the way the world treats us.
Reblogged again for this drawing I made for it
Give us room to grow and see how we flourish.
Having fun with turning cool quilts into plushfurs... The first quilt was made by @rosymothquilts, (thank you for commissioning me on vgen!), second one is Entrance to the Universe made by Maria Fernanda Luciano!
“nobody wants to work anymore” WRONG! bosses do not want to pay people appropriately for their labor

i’ve said it before but i wish vaginas didn’t cost money
you literally can not have a vagina without paying for it. vaginoplasty for some, period products for others, if you want to stop buying period products that’s gonna be expensive medicine or an expensive procedure, recovery from surgery requires time off work and vaginoplasty specifically requires money spent on dilators. our bodies shouldnt cost us this much on baseline. having a vagina shouldnt have such a hefty tax on it. it makes me feel like i’m in a fictional dystopia written for middle school classrooms when i think about it.

ground beef prices are expected to soar to $20 a pound after a screw worm infestation has infected US cattle herds for the first time since the 1950s. Trump, Elon Musk, and DOGE gutted all the funding for the agencies responsible for monitoring our food supply, so now the whole system is collapsing and sending grocery prices soaring. No problem for Big AG — they just pass the price on to YOU.

Three more cases of the New World screwworm have been confirmed, including one outside Texas, demonstrating the difficulty of stopping a pes
this isn't across the entire industry but it is still concerning. there are 5 confirmed cases so far, infecting 3 baby cows and a goat in texas, and a dog in new mexico, but they're still testing flies and animals in both areas to see how far it's spread. no confirmed cases in humans yet and this isn't dangerous to the average consumer but could be for communities animal and human alike that surround slaughterhouses and animal agriculture farms (as well as the animals inside obviously)
the USDA plans are to drop more sterile male flies around the texas/mexico border and eventually open a fly factory in hopes to stop them from reproducing, which is the method the US adopted in the 1950s, but it won't be operational until late 2027 at the earliest. but that method previously stemmed the screwworm population all the way down to Panama.
there's also a group of bioethicists, conservation biologists, and scientists who got together and published this perspective about a year ago, questioning if screwworm depopulation efforts should become more aggressive and lethal with the intent of species eradication, and the ethics of pursuing the science to make that possible.
