Arc 7 begins! Wow a Replica update that did not take me months to do?? Unheard of!

I've had this headcanon for Leo being a better chess player than Donnie for YEARS. It's actually an idea that I've planted and has done its rounds in the fandom in the years leading up to this. I'm glad I finally get to dive into it properly. This is going to be a much shorter story like my early Arcs for Replica but I just love little character studies such as these so please indulge me!

So obviously, they put their big brains together to use this conundrum to their advantage

When Dick needs to take his anti psychotics, Bruce takes his anti psychotics at the same time. Dick forces him to link their arms together like they’re downing shots rather than medication to keep their hallucinations away

When Bruce sprains his wrist on patrol, he also makes sure to bandage up Dick’s sprained ankle. He also scolds him on his landing, to focused on making it flashy, which is exactly why he rolled it. He shuts up, though, when Dick mentions he saw him trip and try and catch himself with one hand, which is exactly why his wrist is sprained. They both agree not to talk about it

If Dick is having trouble with one of his siblings, Bruce is most likely going to back him up. Dick doesn’t do it as often as Bruce, but he will be taking Bruce’s side because, unfortunately for him, Bruce is right over 75% of the time

Dick only tells Bruce when he’s leaving the country for one thing or another, cause he’s so used to only having Bruce to tell. Bruce always informs him first if he needs to go out of the country or is going off world

Bruce dies in a way no one would have thought possible.

Peaceful

Happy

And surrounded by family

They had always figured that he would die in a violent spark, just as he had lived

Maybe saving someone, maybe failing to save someone. Or, in a cruel twist of fate, the same way that his parents died

But strangely enough. He didn’t

There is one thing that everyone got right, however.

He died much too young

But Bruce’s voice is everywhere

All those public recordings are of Brucie’s voice, not Bruce's. Never truly Bruce

Bruce Wayne was made to be Batman

And Batman is made out of the suffering of Bruce Wayne

He never really stood a chance

“It’s weird, cause they weren’t a vigilante or anything.” ___ sniffs, curling in on themselves. “But… but they still died before their time.”

Bruce can’t help but feel his heart break as he looks down at his son (maybe?), experiencing one of the worst pains once again.

“You know… I used to have a 'normal' girlfriend.” Bruce started softly, looking away from the small boy curled up on his bed. “We dated for an entire year. I felt like I was on cloud nine.”

___ remains silently. But then again, Bruce didn’t expect them to answer. And for now, he was happy to reminisce.

“And one morning, after we had a minor fight over the stupidest thing, she sent me a text.” Bruce could feel his throat start to close up in a way that always happened when he was overwhelmed with emotions. “She thanked me, actually thanked me, for coming over that night and spending time with her.”

Bruce chuckled softly and shook his head, his fingers gently carding through ___ hair.

“She texted that she loved me, and I texted back that I loved her too…” Bruce let out a shaky breath. “An hour later, she was in a fatal car wreck on her way to work.”

___’s breath hitched, making Bruce laugh wetly. “I know. I was shocked, too.”

“I just wish I had more time with her. I think… if the world had allowed it… I could’ve spent my entire life with her.”

“I’m sorry… what was she like?”

“Oh…” Bruce blinks, allowing a few tears to slide down his cheeks. “Oh, she was magical.”

And for some stupid… selfish… hopeful reason

He truly thought his children would come and be there for him

You’d think Bruce would be used to being disappointed and left alone by now.

Gotham has always loved Bruce Wayne. The public does love a tragic orphan

And Gotham had grown to love The Batman. He was their protector, their knight

Somehow… someway… without there being an overlap in the two personas… Bruce had found a way to be loved by the people of Gotham

Not just as Bruce and not just as Batman

Bruce no longer talks about his dad. It hurts too much.

He had believed too long that what he went through was his own fault, and somehow, his father was absolved of all wrongdoing through his death

Yes, maybe Thomas loved him

Or maybe Bruce simply wanted to believe that, despite all he went through, there was an intent to love

But none of that really matters anymore

Especially to the dead

Bruce gently brushes a strand of hair from Damian’s face and smiles softly as his youngest’s bright green eyes peer up at him

“I’m so glad you look like your mother,” Bruce murmurs, pressing a soft kiss to Damian’s forehead, allowing himself the simple act to linger and love his child

Bruce finds it hard to look in the mirrors most days. All he could see staring back at him was his father

At least, up until he turned 29

Now, he doesn’t know who he’s looking at

He’s never understood why his father had been angry, telling him, “I wish you grow up to have a child exactly like you. Then you’ll understand how hard it is for me to love you.”

But it’s not hard

Loving Damian, loving any of his children, and his not-children is easier than breathing air

✧ Broken ribs suck. You don’t just “walk it off.” Breathing hurts. Laughing hurts. Existing hurts. Characters with rib injuries won’t be doing heroic sprints.

✧ Concussions aren’t instant naps. Dazed vision, nausea, dizziness, maybe even personality changes, but they’re not going to collapse neatly like in the movies.

✧ Blood loss is sneaky. It’s not just about dramatic pools of blood. It’s dizziness, confusion, and the body getting cold as circulation tanks.

✧ Adrenaline lies. Someone can take a serious injury and not feel it until the fight’s over. That “I didn’t realize I was bleeding until later” trope? Very real.

✧ Twisted ankles are brutal. One bad step and suddenly running is off the table. Even walking hurts like hell. Perfect way to ground a chase scene.

✧ Burns linger. Even small burns hurt more than most people expect. Blisters, infection risk, constant pain, it’s not just a cool scar later.

✧ Dislocated shoulders = useless arm. Characters can’t keep swinging a sword or firing a gun. They’re basically fighting one-armed until it’s fixed.

✧ Shock is a thing. Pale skin, trembling, rapid heartbeat, and eventually disorientation. A character might not even realize how bad their wound is.

✧ Stitches aren’t magic. Getting sewn up is painful and recovery takes time. They’re not instantly battle-ready after a needle and thread.
