Not only do we consistently have and consume vegetables, we have regional and seasonal vegetable dishes and sides.

We absolutely do have traditional dishes that are specific to the regions and cultures found throughout the United States and the varying ethnic groups found therein. We are not children floundering around in the kitchen. We have entire unique regional and cultural divisions of food all over the US that have been passed down and worked on for generations.

America is one of the most food diverse countries on the planet largely due to the massive variety of food profiles and cooking techniques melded together over the years.

The southern United States alone is a culinary banquet of flavors, colors, techniques, and food history. Each southern state has its own way of preparing soul food that is specific to the spices and culture of the black people living there. Louisiana is internationally known for its soul food. Tennesse is internationally known for its soul food. Kentucky is internationally known for its soul food. Texas is internationally known for its barbecue.

Did you know that Within the United States we have like 20 different types of barbecue and that, in the south (the real south not Texas), barbecue is not a verb? It’s a noun. It’s literally it’s own type of food that is incredibly regionally specific? It’s literally different all over and we all fight over who has the best (it’s SC).

Thousands of cookbooks have been made to try and cover the variations in soul food alone. Like we haven’t even begin to talk about other cultural influences in American food outside of the south.

And, as a Jewish person, I know that 6 million very well could be murdered. This is not another Shoah, but it very well could become another. As a Jewish person, I feel we must say “never again.”

Never again.

“Never again” does not mean “this event was so uniquely horrible, it could never happen again.” It means “this event was horrible, but not unique. We have to make sure it never happens again.”

Never again.

The Uyghur death count isn’t 6 million, that is misinformation. But “never again” means we have to make sure it doesn’t become 6 million.

If you are not Jewish or Romani, do not draw comparisons to the Holocaust. All that provides is shock value and misinformation. What you can do is support Uyghur Muslims.

My name is Valentina, I battle muscular dystrophy and a rare type of epilepsy on a daily basis. I am a wheelchair user, have a tracheotomy and suffer daily seizures. I unfortunately had to move back in with my parents because I wasn’t receiving enough personal support worker hours while living semi-independently (I had housemates).

I’m living back at home and I’m struggling with the same issue. I require around the clock care and my parents can’t be up 24/7 watching me. So, I got on a list to go to a care facility. However, they are not taking new residents due to the pandemic being so bad in our area.

The problem is, I can die without around the clock care (I.e. if I were to have a seizure and stop breathing or if my tracheotomy needed to be suctioned). We have tried to ask my care coordinator for more hours but 4 hours is all they will give us (that’s the maximum for everyone receiving government care in my province unless you are on end of life care).

We have found a personal support worker that will come assist us over night (that’s when my parents need to sleep) for $50 a night. She is a self-employed personal support worker who is doing this at a very discounted rate out of the kindness of her heart.

Please consider helping me stay safe in my own home until I can get to a nursing home.

my other donation post about my car has completely lost traction and now things are getting even more uncertain and difficult for me.

To cut to the chase, I’m an unemployed trans woman in an abusive household who’s almost definitely going to lose her health insurance soon. I’m normally on Medicaid, but my state keeps denying me for some reason and I can’t renew it anymore. My college will not let me enroll next semester without health insurance.

My school has been vital to my transition and overall well being. My medicine is being prescribed through the health center there, I don’t have transportation or funds for regular checkups otherwise, and I don’t have anyone willing to help me close by.

Student health insurance costs $1380, and it’s really the only thing I can get at this point. I would have applied for a cheaper option earlier, but I had no way of knowing that my Medicaid would suddenly be denied this late. Enrollment for student health insurance ends February 1st. I can probably supplement some of this myself, but I’m just setting the goal right now.

Genuinely, every donation helps. Even if you can only give a small amount, please consider it. If every person who reblogged some of my other posts left just 1 dollar each, I’d already have transportation and insurance. If you can’t donate, please at least reblog. Thank you.
