my SPOILER FREE! TADC movie experience
If I had to summ it up in one word, it was BEAUTIFUL
This whole thing was very personal to me, one of the best and most emotional experiences I've had in a movie theater (watching Coco back in 2017 was one of them as well).
The theater was packed. Not like jam packed, let's say 1/4 seats were empty, but there were a lot of people. In my small country and (compared to other capitals in region and Europe, not to mention the world), small capital city. A finale to an indie cartoon from YouTube. THAT ALONE, regardless of how the finale itself was executed is powerful. And it did not disappoint
I finished my custom Ragatha doll today just in time and I brought her with me :) This one sweet pink haired girl was like OMG can I take a pic, did u make it?! curo ako ovo ฤitaลก, drago mi je da ti se svidjela, baลก si me obradovala <3. One girl in front of me had a little Pomni plush, and two kids had cardboard Caine and Gangle masks. there was probably more people with cool stuff, but those are the ones I noticed
there she is :D I'll post my process in a few parts one of these days when I get the time, like said
Before the film itself, the yellow fish voiced by Charlie from Smiling friends gave us a disclaimer (rightfully so. It was pretty funny ngl) and then we continued on with episode 8. I thought everyone would be singing The one who's running the show (I sure did) but it didn't really catch on (well, the volume was pretty high up so you couldn't really hear it if people did thou)
regarding the demographic, I suspected that there will be kids, but it was still jarring to see. There was a whole class of elementary school children, like 3rd grade with their teacher in the front row. And there was a mom with two (also like max 8 year old!) kids. And these kids 1) don't understand English 2) didn't generally know about the show. They later got scared by Caine going berserk and left with their mom. So yikes. But generally most of the audience was high schoolers, college students (thou teenagers outnumbered us) and a few millenials/older zoomers. And the vibe was chill. there were these girls in the back seats that would say YURI!! every time there was like a longer interaction between female characters. Honestly my exact thoughts girlies. Then some short comments and things like that. Overall it was respectful, the crowd elevated the experience
Regarding the movie itself we all laughed a lot, and there were tear jerker scenes. I cried and I'm not the kinda person who has spare tears. Some scenes did have tonal whiplash with that swing from dark to funny, but it was tastefully done. Regarding the characters, story and lore; everything was wrapped up as it deserved imo. They weren't stingy and not overwhelming either. And what I love the most - THEY DIDN'T MAKE ANYONE THE VILLAIN or generally evil. They just needed some therapy and good communication, that's all there is to it.
Bravo Vince Gooseworx and Glitch! Goose, I hope you go to the long overdue vacation to some cabin in the woods or remote island with no internet to get your well deserved rest, fresh air and vitamin D. Glitch productions, you handled the viral sensation that was The amazing digital circus better than anyone else could in your shoes, good luck with your other shows and stay respectful to your creators and their crative freedom like you've always done!
