Rumination is probably the most common type of OCD compulsion, but I rarely see anyone talking about it. I've talked to multiple people diagnosed with OCD who didn't even recognize it as a compulsion.

Basically, if you have OCD you have terrible intrusive thoughts. They can be about anything, but common themes are fear of being a bad person, fear of hurting someone, fear of contamination. etc.

Rumination is when you get stuck in a spiral. Rumination is when you spend hours catastrophizing, overthinking, analyzing, telling yourself it's going to be okay.

I'll say it again:

Rumination is a compulsion.

Rumination is a compulsion, and that means you have to stop doing it.

I did ERP (exposure response prevention) for my OCD with a therapist! For 9 months! And it did help, but the idea didn't really click until I found this website a couple years later.

And Oh My God. It made things make so much more sense, and I was able to pull myself out of an episode even though I wasn't in therapy or on meds at the time.

Genuinely if you have OCD, or even if you suspect you have OCD, I'm begging you to read some of these articles.

May has been recognized as Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month since 1991, when it started as a single week of observance in the United States. Over time, the name has undergone changes to be more inclusive, while also shining a light on the very obvious flaws of lumping so many different cultural and ethnic groups under a single umbrella. What we all have in common, as AANHPI people, is how invisible we are to national discussions and debates and issues. Well, unless White people need to drum up the Model Minority myth for their talking points.

My 2024 and 2025 AANHPI Heritage Month posts were a lot of work but still fun to work on. 2025 was also very special, as I was able to share my thoughts after sitting through a presentation led by Li Wei Yang. Then, the year progressed as it did, and 2026 is spiraling by at ludicrous velocity. My online rambling and resource dumping grew more frequent and became centered around ICE activities, with the occasional dive into general politics.

I live in a place where our daily lives have been affected in so many ways by the elected senile infant-man. You understand.

A recently published study by the UCLA Asian American Studies Center showed that following Biden's exit, ICE was shown to largely target public places, homes and worksites. These sweeping operations result in large-scale apprehensions and double as grand displays of militarized violence aimed at intimidating local communities. Under the current administration, roughly 67 percent of arrestees were grabbed during these community arrests, and were mostly non-criminals, or at the very least individuals who were paroled or on probation. The L.A. TACO delivers daily reports about immigration issues SoCal residents face, as well as comprehensive documentation of known raids in Los Angeles and its SoCal neighbors. Immigration attorneys and health clinics are overwhelmed, and advocates continue risking their own safety to provide valuable aid to the marginalized. (Just this month, community watch group VCDefensa came under attack when known organizers and associates had their homes raided by ICE.)

More on the subject of AANHPI Month, I acknowledge this post comes when most of May is behind us. June is on the horizon, and in two weeks, rainbow capitalism will be upon us once more. That doesn't mean I stop being Chinese; my manager doesn't stop being Filipino; my friend doesn't stop being Vietnamese.

You get the idea.

In May 10, 1886, Lee Yick won a Supreme Court case that said that all people — citizens AND non-citizens — had equal protection under the law.

In 1880, San Francisco passed a law requiring a permit for laundries to operate in wooden buildings, due to the fire risk. Of the 320 laundries in San Francisco, 310 were in wooden buildings, and 240 were owned by Chinese persons.

Not one Chinese laundry applicant was issued a permit.

Yick and Lee, owners of the Yick Wo laundry, refused to pay the $10 (roughly $333.62 today) fine, and they were jailed. Each sued, arguing that the fine and discriminatory enforcement of the ordinance violated their rights under the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.

"The holding of Yick Wo was that a law that's administered with an evil eye or an unequal hand violates [a person's] right to equal protection."

Note: Yick Wo was the name of the business, and Hopkins referred to Sheriff Peter Hopkins. Hopkins also mistakeningly booked Lee Yick under "Yick Wo," assuming he shared a name with the laundry.

Yick Wo v. Hopkins was argued at the Supreme Court in 1886. In a unanimous opinion authored by Justice T. Stanley Matthews, the court concluded that despite the impartial wording of the law, its biased enforcement violated the Equal Protection Clause.

According to the court, even if the law is impartial on its face, “if it is applied and administered by public authority with an evil eye and an unequal hand.” The kind of biased enforcement experienced by the plaintiffs, the court concluded, amounted to “a practical denial by the state of that equal protection of the law” and therefore violated the provision of the Fourteenth Amendment.

The ruling did not suddenly bring about equality and equity for Chinese and other minorities, since it was followed just a decade later by Plessy v. Ferguson, which determined racial segregation was totally okay.

Doesn't erase the importance of Yick Wo v. Hopkins.

I've been struggling a lot to find proper terminology for intersex issues in my research because Google is all gunked up and Tumblr is just as hard to parse through.

Non-academic literature 🧙‍♀️

Krafton CEO looks at the hype surrounding Subnautica 2, goes over the contract between Krafton and Unknown Worlds, realizes he'll have to pay out bonuses and freaks out because shelling out those bonuses will make him look like a pushover.

CEO goes to his legal department, asks them to come up with a plan to weasel out of paying bonuses. Legal tells him the contract is iron-clad and to accept the loss.

CEO refuses to take the loss, asks ChatGPT for a plan. ChatGPT says the exact same thing the legal department did.

CEO demands a plan from ChatGPT, which dutifully spits out a plan at this point because clearly the CEO is a goddamn idiot.

CEO deletes the chat logs, failing to understand that 'delete' doesn't permanently remove things.

CEO follows plan, and is surprised when Unknown Worlds sues for breach of contract despite being told by both humans and an LLM that is exactly what would happen.

Court does not go well for Krafton's legal department. It comes out that after ignoring the sound legal advice of human beings, the CEO went to ChatGPT and asked for a plan. When asked for the logs by the court, Krafton's legal team states they were deleted, thus that it's simply herersay. Judge goes "Oh, that's okay, we'll have our IT folks recover them." Krafton's legal team is astounded that's even possible.

The chat logs are recovered. It comes out that even ChatGPT was in agreement with Krafton's legal department, and only spat out a plan after being asked a second time.

The judge, now thoroughly done with the stupidity of Krafton's CEO at this point, rules in favor of Unknown Worlds. Her ruling doesn't simply undo the scheme, but effectively leaves all control over Subnautica 2's development in the hands of Unknown Worlds, including the early access release date, reducing Krafton to just publishing out of contractual obligation. Krafton must also return all social media platforms for Unknown Worlds and Subnautica 2 to Unknown Worlds' control. Financial damages will be determined at a later date.

Krafton proceeds to violate the court order in less than 72 hours by trying to set an early access release date before returning Unknown Worlds' social media platforms.
