the symbiotes probably ate away at their initial’s hosts’ organs because they had been starved for 6 months. did this big science corporation really somehow think that these extraterrestrial life forms didn’t need any nutrients to survive?? like yeah sure they’re alive but they don’t need ,, food,

when they ran the test with the bunny and the yellow symbiote, it probably succeeded because the yellow symbiote had already ‘unsuccessfully’ bonded with other rabbits before that and had already eaten so it didn’t feel the need to feed on the new host

plus, riot seemed to be able to bond to anyone during his journey to the life foundation, he just chose to keep switching them out. and venom could bond to eddie, anne and the dog without actually hurting them, so it was just a matter of choice. when eddie’s organs were failing and his heart was atrophied it was probably just venom like snacking before they got actual food or the symbiote genuinely was just unsure how to control the human body
