Construction of the Space Conquerors monument in Moscow. It was started in 1962 to celebrate the space launch of the first artificial satellite (Sputnik).

The monument was designed by architects Mikhail Barsch and Aleksandr Kolchin, sculptor Andrey Faidysh-Krandiyevsky.

It was officially opened on November 4, 1964 in presence of cosmonauts Yuri Gagarin, Gherman Titov, Valentina Tereshkova, Andriyan Nikolayev, Pavel Popovich, Valery Bykovsky, Vladimir Komarovsky, Konstantin Feoktistov, Boris Yegorov (their bronze heads are part of the monument).
