Because Robert's bisexuality was very much A Thing™ for Aaron at one point. The fact he slept with Rebecca when Aaron was in prison raised some ugly thoughts for him. He's said on more than one occasion that just because he's bi it doesn't mean he's going to cheat, doesn't mean that when he's with Aaron he's going to be eyeing up every woman who walks past him.

And honestly... his track record isn't great when it comes to cheating and being faithful.

Until it (mostly) was. Rebecca wasn't an affair (and god don't start that up again): when Robert was with Aaron he was with Aaron. He wasn't looking anywhere else for anyone else.

The idea that there could be anyone else for Robert is almost laughable. There can never be anyone else for him, even if Aaron rejected him with his full heart and without even the slightest hint of doubt. Even if Aaron was canonically beyond devoted to John there isn't a world or a version of Robert that would find someone else.

Robert was a player, he was out for what he could get, he did what (and who) he wanted... right up until the point his heart and soul and whole being went "nah, we want this one". And that was that. Robert Sugden fully belonged to Aaron Dingle and there will never be, in any version of any story, anyone else for him.

So when Chas tells him to find someone else, and Robert has that response? Aaron knows. He gets it. He knows that Robert loves him, knows all of the above. He knows that there isn't a part of Robert that wants anyone else. He's getting married to John and Robert is here and he's gone through a whole range of emotions about that.

He's standing there, saying he's going to marry John. Robert is standing there, saying there couldn't be anyone else other than Aaron.
