I almost exclusively write spec fic, mostly fantasy, horror, and fantasy-horror.
I write a lot of middle grade, but I also work in adult fiction as well.
I enjoy writing weird stories with humor and heart, strange characters, and lots of subverting/playing with various tropes.
Most of my works include body horror and/or emotional abuse as a theme, so be aware of that.
I'm down for following/supporting any fellow middle grade writers! I'm also interested in following fellow horror, fantasy, or weird fiction writers, and I'm especially drawn to stories written in a unique and/or unconventional format.
That being said, romance/erotica is not my scene. I support y'all from a distance, though.

Former small-time rock bassist Neoma Liu wakes up in a discarded freezer to find that their bones have been stolen. They now must confront a dramatically changed world, hostile musicians under demon contracts, and memories of a former contentious relationship to get them back.

Here's the angry email I wrote to the customer service desk. I don't know if I'll get any answer but feel free to copy and paste if you want.
Hello,
I am writing to express my deep disappointment and concern about Ingram's behind-closed-doors sale of author's work to AI companies. I learned about this new practice through posts on Instagram and tumblr, not through any official email announcement or documentation through my author portal, and I was horrified to learn that it was an opt-out situation. How do I know my work hasn't already been scraped or stolen before I opted out? Would I be paid for the sale, or would Ingram spark receive all the proceeds of my hard work?
Furthermore, the opt-out form had to be linked in these off-site posts. This is a huge breach of trust for a small indie author who's trying to break out in the industry. When I searched for "AI" on Ingram's website, the opt-out page did not come up in the search results. Also, I publish through the IngramSpark Website, so I wouldn't have known to go to the "Ingram Content Group" website to find the page, and the opt-out page didn't show up in the search results on that page either. The only results that come up are "helpful" guides on AI marketing strategies, which I find offensive as well (though irrelevant to the topic at hand). It's as though the company is intentionally trying to hide the opt-out form to keep as many authors as possible ignorant and enrolled to unfairly profit off their stolen work.
This is a huge breach of trust for a small indie author who's trying to break out in the industry. I am betrayed, angry, and hopeless. I chose Ingramspark because of your wide distribution network, access to libraries and small bookstores, and high print quality for my illustrations. I want to sell wide. I bring my book to art markets. I want to have a product I can be proud of. I don't want to rely on Amazon's monopoly, and other distributors don't offer what you do.
Please reverse this decision and publicly apologize to the writing community. You would not have your business without us.
Okay so I went and looked into this and it's not exactly what it sounds like.
It's still bad that they offered this option to major publishers without making indies aware of it as well, but just FYI here is what is going on:
To escape the current piracy lawsuits, along with the often complex terms of use attached to ebooks, AI companies have begun purchasing physical copies of books and scanning the pages to run the data in their machines. It is pretty much impossible to tell whether someone is going to use a book for this purpose, and courts have seemingly ruled that it is "fair use". The only way they can tell if someone is going to do this is basically their corporate affiliation. So, Ingram offered people the ability to restrict book sales - not data deals - actual book sales - to these companies. Ingram has not made a deal for your digital book data without your consent, this is just an extra precaution.
Thank you for the clarification, I appreciate it. I am thankful that Ingram has given us the option to opt out, and that the books aren't being stolen, they're being purchased legally. I kinnnndd of understand the whole "fair use" thing. It's like I can't stop someone from rebinding my book, writing fanfic, or making blackout poetry with it after it's been legally bought.
But I still think it's shady that
1) the loophole to buy physical books and then still train AI off of them is permissible in the first place (not Ingram's fault). LLM training is still fundamentally different from other transformative work in my opinion, but I guess that's for the courts to decide.
2) The option to restrict book sales is opt-out, not opt-in
3) The link to find the opt-out form is so difficult to find on their websites
4) These settlements were made in January (as far as I can tell) and now it's July and this is the first indie authors are hearing about it, unless you're following Publisher's Weekly and staying up to date on the news. This should have been a newsletter or a message in our author portals.
2-4 ARE things Ingram is responsible for, but didn't do because they stood to make their cut of money off each book sale, and on keeping as many authors ignorant of these sales and enrolled in the program as possible. Now that people are learning about the opt-out option, we are mad, and we would have opted out sooner if given the choice, even if it means (potentially) losing sales, on the principle of the thing.
I could have worded my email better, true, I fired it off between meetings at work without looking into the background. Mea culpa. The lack of transparency still bothers me though.
there’s a thing I think about sometimes when I’m writing that I call ‘the rabies condition’
by which I mean: there are no contraindications to getting the rabies vaccine for post-exposure prophylaxis.
every other vaccine usually has a few contraindications like ‘don’t take this if you’re allergic to it’ or ‘if you’re pregnant discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor’ or ‘don’t give to children below age 6′ or something, but not the rabies vaccine. if you’ve been exposed to rabies, there is literally no medical reason that can justify not getting the rabies vaccine–you can be deadly allergic to literally every single ingredient and the correct decision is still to administer the vaccine, because if you don’t, you’re 100% guaranteed to die of rabies. even the life-threatening allergies are a step up in survival rate (especially since anaphylaxis is something that can be managed, even if there are risks associated with it)
which is to say, the rabies condition: if a character has been ‘exposed to rabies’, aka, in some impending absolute worst-case scenario, like the apocalypse or some death curse or the destruction of their entire city via demons or whatever, then that character has to take action and the consequences and risks no longer matter, because literally any other outcome would be better, and 1% chance of survival is still better than 0%. that doesn’t make those actions necessarily good, the same way that injecting yourself with something you know you’re deadly allergic not a good thing to do, but it’s still better than dying horrifically of rabies. desperate times and desperate measures etc
and then, after your character’s prevented some horrible thing by doing some almost equally bad thing, they should absolutely experience the consequences of those choices.

OOH BOY. This is really interesting in the context of Altars.
What the hell is an "Altar," you're assumedly asking? WELL. In simple terms, they are giant collections of skulls that act as repositories of human knowledge and creation. People can tap into Altars by replacing one of their teeth with a tooth from the skulls. Also they are fueled by parts of human souls and are therefore in a state of continuous suffering!
So yeah. Most of the characters would not accept ominiscent knowledge, especially not in the context of the Soul 206 universe.
Except for Ravenna. If she thought it was the only way to achieve her goals, she might.
I know this is the website where we talk about artists and writers doing anything other than making art or writing, but man, we REALLY undersell how good it feels to actually work on your stuff.
Like you hit your word count for the first time in a week and its like
who cares if you don't fully "get" the weird postmodernist novel on your first read, or if the experimental arthouse film is opaque to you on your first viewing? you are not being graded. you are not being scored. there is value in the attempt. every time i've read House of Leaves or watched Blue Velvet, I've gotten something new from it. the idea that you might not "get" something and therefore shouldn't bother with it is so silly to me

Here's some recent zero drafting..I'm barely doing more than telling myself the story here, mapping out the scene.
Immediately Malleus and Lamia straightened and assumed sober countenances.
“Malleus Dis. Lamia Malady.” the Dread Lords began, addressing their brood.
The so named bowed in the fashion of the Dread Lord.
“The turning of the wheel bringeth thee to thy trials.”
Malleus and Lamia were standing with bowed heads, only Lamia glowering up at the Lords beneath her furrowed brow.
The Dread Lords caused a great fire to leap up from the ancient hearth in their midst. It towered over them all. The smell of burning bone seeped out of it. Each Dread Lord in turn stepped over the bloodied creep-corpse on the flags and surrounded the flames in a circle. Then they began to walk rhythmically around the fire, chanting in their tongue. They picked up speed. Soon they were merely skating the floor with the tips of their shoes.
All at once they rose, still circling the fire in one direction, hovering high in the air. As they did so, the flames rose even higher, casting light on Crispin’s face. He lurched back even further into the darkness by the statue. Still, from this vantage he could see the top of the Dread Lord’s heads as they spun, high above the ground but as yet below the balcony on which he stood. Their chanting, at first low and even and now lifting to a high-pitched screeching, had become deafeningly loud. There was a rumbling, and the Dread Lords slowly descended again, their screeches falling to a deep growl, mingling with the rumble deep within the stones. The flames dropped to their former level. Crispin ventured to peer again.
The Dread Lords now all faced one particular arched doorway. A sourly stale gust of air came from it, and the fire instantly was blown to nothing. Or, perhaps it would be more accurate to say it collapsed into nothing, as if the Lords had willed it gone. A wraith, black and fearsome, entered through the archway. It floated there, faceless and silent, waiting. Crispin watched as the Dread Lords took Lamia and Malleus by their collars and dragged them before it.
After this in my drafting document I left this note for myself: "[L & M have to choose between two archways / they are grabbed by branches/vines creaking through the stone work and pinned to the wall]". What do you think should happen to Lamia and Malleus here chat? (Drafting without a detailed plan yet is turning out a bit like a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure book..)
