Book Update #7
It's official...
Sun Rising's first chapter has been posted on AO3!
Confused? Let me break it down.
For those who did not see it, I posted something here asking writers about publishing their original work online via sites like AO3. No you're not wrong, Sun Rising has, up to this point, been edited/written with the intent of trad publication. However, after some introspection and helpful conversations, I decided to pivot to digital publication (which, above everything else, is free and easy).
I want people to read Sun Rising. I want to move on to writing it's sequels and other books in this world. I want to write new things.
Sun Rising has been written, edited, and rewritten for nearly a DECADE now, which is quite a feat considering I'm only 22. It has been my greatest joy to work on. It has also been my greatest hurdle.
Essentially, publishing this digitally allows me to break free from the constraints I had placed on myself with the goal of trad publication. I can finally breathe and start to have fun with it again. I can finally put chapters out with the promise that I will never circle back and edit it again.
I want to thank all the kind folks who responded to my questions in my last post. You all truly helped me come to this decision in the best way possible. It was probably a long time coming, to be fair.
I'll post chapters here as well. Might as well. But for anyone who wants to support Sun Rising on AO3, the link to read it is here.
I know this isn't what anyone expected, I didn't expect it either. But this is a future that is bright for both me and my characters. I hope you come with us on the journey :)

Writing Comeptition Announcement (?)
Hey guys, 👋 I'm thinking of holding a writing competition. Firstly, I want to clear that there won't be any cash prizes, it's just for fun and exploring creative ideas. (Yes! Fanfictions allowed!) I'm still not sure about this though.
If this idea gets enough likes/reblogs that surely I will conduct a for-fun writing contest in the upcoming month (September) which also happens to be near my birthday!! 🎂
I'm just posting this beforehand so I'm aware of how many people are actually interested and willing to participate, so that the competition doesn't go in vain.

More people need to point out what works, rather than focusing on what doesn't. I found it helps writers learn faster if you show them what they are doing well rather than pointing out the mistakes. Better yet if their own text carries proof of their ability to write the same thing well, elsewhere.
I am sick and tired of seeing videos where all they do is talk about how you’re writing your book wrong. ITS A FIRST DRAFT, all those videos do is put people into boxes, make authors too scared to write, and don’t help anything.
Watching the videos AFTER the rough draft is how it is supposed to be.
Run through the concept of your book first, make it bad, write how you want to, THEN fix it. THEN watch the videos.
Good advice. Genuinely. Skip the videos too if you want. Nothing worse than trying to fit into a style that is not yours. No writing advice is universal. If the videos help you, good. If they don't, don't take it as a sign that something's wrong.

My Favourite Feelings as a Writer
When my characters write themselves
It doesn’t happen often, but when my characters seem to just say and do everything completely in character without me having to fight to make their dialouge sensicle and plot relevent, that’s honestly such a soothing feeling for a constantlty stressed writer
2. When it gets to my favourite chapter
I’m sure every author has spent days of their lives, daydreaming about future chapters they haven’t gotten around to writing yet. And there isn’t a better feeling then when that day finally comes. And that idea can become reality through words on a page.
3. When my character say something
Whether it be heartbreaking, beautiful, cruel or profound, I can’t help but give credit to the character rather than myself for the dialouge that appears on the page. Sometimes words on a page really mean more than you the things you can say with your lips.
4. When my writing makes me cry
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a sucker for a good story, and sometimes, my own story is exactly what I’ve been looking for, that when I get a good idea, or I go back and read something I’ve written, I can’t help but shed a few tears at it. Whether it’s the quality or the moment itself, sometimes it just gets to me.
5. When my characters fall in love
I love romance, and my novel is a romance, so excuse me if I get a little bit excited each time my characters and heading more and more in love. Never mind that I planned it they would be a match in every universe.
6. When my music times up perfectly
There are some very rare occassions when my playlist matches up with the mood or even has topical dialouge that syncs with what I’m writing and if that doesn’t feel like fate is telling me I’m on the right track, I don’t know what does
If only more people were comfortable being openly passionate about things they enjoy and care about without the threat of being judged for what they love, the world would be a better place.
