dany!!! 💖💗💖🧚🏻♂️
i love your prose and the way you craft your stories. ive always been curious to learn if there were any particular books or authors that you found to have inspired your writing. are there any you found to be influential?
hi Naomi!! 🧙♀️ thank you for the lovely question.
my number one inspiration will always be Ray Bradbury. these days I don't seek out any male authors not already known to and liked by me, so this is high praise coming from me. he writes in such a succinct way, low on metaphor but still high on symbolism and theme; I have definitely developed my own style with him as a guide.
two authors I discovered over the past few years who have styles similar to mine and who now inspire me are Eve Babitz and Margaret Millar. again, I favor straightforward styles regardless of genre (I wouldn't say he influences my style, but GRRM writes this way too) and they both write that way. Millar wrote noir and Babitz wrote autofiction and they couldn't be more different in general, but I find inspiration in both as to the stark concept of their prose. when the occasional Millar metaphor hits, it lands.
I've only read her nonfiction, but Ursula K. Le Guin's essays have been very helpful for me in multiple facets of life but especially my fantasy work. it encourages me to remember that I know what I want to write and need to get it out there, not worry about convention or audience or deep analysis after the fact or the underlying message. this isn't really about my prose I just thought I'd share.
young archimedes: and other atomic inspired soundscapes, a retrofuturistic playlist made especially for my institute scientist, dr. yvette carmichael-holdren!
enjoy over an hour of modern and early electronic music from the 50s, 60s, and 70s, featuring selections from the BBC radiophonic workshop and raymond scott, the father of electronic music.
i was inspired by UPA animation and illustrated science manuals from the 50s and 60s for the cover. you can listen to young archimedes on spotify or youtube!

A better appreciation of my dying husband (the quality from the video was soo low lol)
remembered cowgirl pin ups exist (clenches a whiskey glass so hard it breaks)
since some people were interested, I cleaned this up and made it available as a print 🤓❤️🔥 link below for my fellow Wyll enjoyers 🍷 also I saw your tags on the previous version. You're all Correct https://www.inprnt.com/gallery/janedoe297/the-blade-of-frontiers/

What is this witch doing at dusk?
Spotify is allowing AI-generated songs with AI-generated covers to be published under the names of singers who have been dead for years 👍
Thought I’d encourage those Lone Wanderers and Sole Survivors to hop on the card bandwagon by saving y’all some time and whipping these together. If you’ve got a different Vault number you want, lemme know and I’ll put it together.
learning that """dirty sodas""" are now a trend and also problematic(?) because mormons "invented" them is so crazy because my sister and i have been addicted to the concept of pop + cream for years and we used to make so many italian soda recipes at home. whats going on in the greater internet ecosystem
genuinely and truly underrated if you like dark atmospheric lady rock

inspired by the playing cards @atomsace, and other folks have posted, i just had to do one for ladybird! paired with tommy’s real playing card because of course ❤️
okay I JUSt finished the movie so maybe I haven't sat on it long enough yet, but the one wish willow—it's made clear that they aren't cursed or inherently evil through ian's wish. the director and actress for nikki both directly stated that nikki is not possessed. everything can come together and make that make sense (the wish was evil so nikki got torn apart by it, essentially) BUT the phone call with the one wish willow number makes that make no sense to me. the guy sounds purposefully sinister and we hear nikki screaming and crying as the man taunts bear. so if the one wish willows aren't cursed or evil then wtf was that? that vs. ian's wish coming true perfectly fine seem very at odds
