i watched tadc the week before the movie came out and i went in thinking f*nnyb*nny was canon bc that's how the fandom treated it.

y'all. like implied mutual romantic feelings in the movie, at the VERY END, i guess, but then j4x is gone so...sorry, not canon or endgame.

and to see that specific ship fandom responding to ragapom/jesterdoll's hug and relationship wrapping up was actually so irritating. like you will NOT gaslight me about this show! i LITERALLY JUST GOT HERE!!!

"i never got the sense that ragatha and pomni were good friends."

"they were never that close before the finale, it was so forced."

"ragatha and pomni barely interacted, why are they besties now?"

saying the last one as a F*NNYB*NNY shipper is INSANITY. j4x barely interacted with pomni outside of that one episode with guns, and i get a laugh out of f*nnyb*nny edits that were made before the finale bc they're just holding guns in 80% of it. like where were you guys getting the sense that they were essentially canon BEFORE the finale?

and then discrediting pomni and ragatha's dynamic when it's one of the most canonically developed and significant ones in the entire show?? hello? did you watch the show, yes or no?

the scenes that stood out to me personally are pomni's and ragatha's conversations with kinger. pomni hearing about kinger's wife inspired her to speak to ragatha of how appreciative she is for what ragatha does for her.

ragatha, whether or not she's faking it 'til she makes it, constantly protects, reassures, and comforts pomni literally since the moment she got in the circus.

that little awkward "oh, you talk first/we'll talk after the show" moment felt a little romantically coded (reminded me of kataang in tdobs).

ragatha was crying to kinger over the fact that she may lose her friendship with pomni and that she was "failing her"—primarily because of pomni's interest in j4x. ragatha is jealous and upset over pomni wanting to be with j4x multiple times (and is even arguably jealous over pomni's pursuit of gummigoo in the fast food adventure).

Personally I feel like Pomni clearly wanted to be friends with both of them if left to her own devices and it was their issues and beef that led her to one or the other. But she clearly spent the most time around Ragatha, liked her even when there was tension between them, and the two get alot closer after their talk after the show. People just kinda disregard it due to subtlety and both of them being awkward anxious beans. I do kinda wish there were more casual moments where they interacted outside of plot or that we got to see the talk after the show because I think it'd help development and alot of people's issues with how their relationship was presented, but I personally felt they developed pretty naturally.

but yeah i see them having interest in each other—pomni was, in fact, reaching out to j4x when no one would—but it’s brief and layered with so many issues. it’s not a cut-and-dry romance or necessarily romantic period. people do truly boil it down to tropes when it seems to be more complex than that.

at the time, presuming jax was a man (the “Good Luck, Babe!” of it all), it really did feel heteronormative to say fb’s interactions were inherently romantic while ragapom was completely platonic.
