hi I havenât been on here in a long long long time but I just wanted to pop in and say Iâm more active on Twitter! Iâm currently super Bungou Stray Dogs so here r some links Main Twitter: @potetobun Art Twitter: @hotcakesbun (sketches/WIPs/finished work) Art Tumblr: @sweetmoonbun
Stop thinking about everything so much, youâre breaking your own heart.
but why is reposting BAD?
i thought iâd make an faq filled with every excuse in the book about reposting, for those who still donât understand why itâs badâŚor for people who donât know what to say in retaliation to these! so here we go.Â
first of all, an artist doesnât even NEED to explain themselves. in the same way with someone who says âdude, make sure that soda is dietâ or âplease donât tickle meâ. they donât want you to do it. you donât need to test them by ignoring them. the reason doesnât matter: itâs the personâs wish with THEIR things. if you had any respect for others, youâd just take it at that.Â
BUT for some people, they donât want to respect others at face value, and want their reason. (which, i might add, is rude.) so letâs get into that:Â
but iâm giving you exposure! isnât that good?
no.Â
youâre not giving artists exposure. for people like myself, freelance artists, youâre hurting us. about a year ago, i sent my portfolio off to an indie game. in it, i had a piece of work that had been reposted (that i didnât even know about). i was told much later that they âlooked into itâ and saw that my work was posted by someone else, which means now they have no idea who the artist was, and THEREFORE canât be sure my work was legit. i lost a potential job to a repost.Â
doesnât matter if you say âi didnât draw thisâ. sometimes, they donât even look. they just look to see if itâs on any site other than your own. and thatâs terrifying for artists. so donât endanger our livelihood for instagram likes.Â
besides, youâre not even giving exposure if you didnât credit, cropped out the signature, or somehow made the resolution so low to where you canât even see the signature. which brings me toâŚ
but i credited you!
some people still donât want it reposted even with credit. the last answer should show you one of the many reasons why.Â
youâre dictating what i can/cannot put on my page! this is MY page!
and itâs MY art you posted. you canât take something i did and do whatever you want with it. imagine if you took someones drawing, photocopied it, and spread it all around the town without their permission. theyâd have every right to be angry, right?
but you posted it online, which means anyone can do anything with it. so if you donât want it reposted, donât post it online!
i have to post my art onto my websites to build a fanbase, something crucial to an artist. it shouldnât be on ME to not post it in the first place, it should be on YOU to not repost it. youâre just echoing victim-blaming arguments.Â
youâre basically saying âif you donât want to be bullied, donât exist.â which is a terrible thing to teach people, rather than âbe nice and respectful towards others.â yes, i know our world isnât perfect. but thatâs no excuse to contribute to vile things.Â
well i would be honored if someone reposted my art. and my friend doesnât mind reposts, so why should you?
good for you! good for them! but did you know thereâs more people in the world other than just you and your friend? we have wishes and feelings too, so you donât get to project your own emotions onto what WE should be feeling as well. i love peaches. some people donât like them. that doesnât mean that now they have to eat peaches because i donât mind them.Â
what an artist creates automatically belongs to society, though.Â
go steal the mona lisa and tell me how that works out.Â
everyone can VIEW it, yes. artists want others to view their work! we just donât want you to do stuff with it we asked you not to do.Â
WELL THEN SPEAKING OF THAT, since i canât put your work on redbubble and sell it for myself, why do you have an umbrella of the starry night?? huh?? you STOLE van goghâs work! (yes people have legit said this to me)Â
putting my work on items and selling it is totally illegal. van goghâs work is owned by companies now, who have authorization to print it on things. and iâm just ONE freelance artist who is, you know, still alive and not giving permission to do that. you canât compare a dead artist from the 1800s to a digital artist in 2017. apples to oranges, my dude.
well i SAID âcredit to the artistâ so i DID give you credit!
because saying âthe artistâ really tells people who i am and lets them visit my websites! thank you so much!Â
but all sarcasm aside, that doesnât do anything other than show you were too lazy to find the artist. same thing with âsource: the internetâ and âwho drew this xDâ or misspelling my url on purpose or putting the credit under a cut. OR cropping the image to cut off my signature! you didnât give me credit.Â
it wasnât on the website i wanted it on! you should have more social media.
iâll have the social media i want to have. not up to me to make more accounts on more things just so you wonât disrespect me.Â
but i donât remember where i got it. besides, i reposted SOOO much work and saved it all a long time ago. how can i find it now?
reverse google image search is so great.
also, if you didnât know the artist, thatâs a HUGE reason not to repost it in the first place!! you didnât even know if it was okay since you never got to see their position on that!!
take down your video with stolen fan art. take down your entire fan art twitter account. i donât care âhow hard it was to save those imagesâ or âhow many views you have nowâ. you got all that attention from someone elseâs hard work. searching for art will never be as hard as making it. if it were that easy, youâd be drawing all the art yourself.Â
but i asked the artist and they didnât say anything! i assumed it was okay.Â
yeah, i feel you. itâs the same thing as when you ask your mom if you can borrow some money, she doesnât answer, so you just steal it from her purse. no answer means the answer you want to hear, right?
wrong. donât take âunresponsiveâ as a yes. thatâs disgusting.Â
well i honestly donât care. artists are just selfish. iâll repost their art if i want to, just to show them how much i hate their stance on reposting. and (insert another really edgy statement here from someone who only says things to get a rise out of people since their life is empty)Â
one day youâre gonna come across an artist who has no chill and wants to sue, and can actually do it, since some people put their work under HEAVY copyright. and iâm gonna kick back in my chair with a nice capri sun and watch it all happen, since you have that kind of attitude towards people.Â
yes, this whole thing seems a bit. well. âsaltyâ, as some would put it. and i have every right to be irritated over this. all these questions are asking âWHY should i respect their wishes? give me a reasonâ or âbut here is my excuse rather than just taking it downâ. time after time, artists are villainized just for telling people not to repost.Â
like i said, the artist not wanting you to repost it SHOULD be reason enough! weâre so tired of having to fight people just to have respect for our art. we have to deal with tracing constantly, so can you please take reposting off our plates? i know bad things will always happen, but thatâs no reason to make it worse by contributing.Â
artists are generously putting our art out there for free. if you want to keep seeing our art for free (btw we donât HAVE to, all the big artists could just up and leave and go to patreon), maybe show us some respect? because we get pretty dejected when we see strangers getting attention from something we did, and it makes us want to remove everything we show you guys. you say âdonât post it then!â but would be mad if all fan art disappeared.Â
if you want to keep the art, respect the artist making it. thereâs a real person behind that drawing.Â

This HAS to go viral. This pathetic movie is abusing animals in order to film cheap scenes for human entertainment. The dog is clearly terrified but the âtrainersâ have no regard for her safety.
Please share and encourage your friends not to spend money on a movie that uses animal abuse to film!!!
http://www.tmz.com/2017/01/18/a-dogs-purpose-german-shepherd-abuse-video/
Hi yes, ACTUAL dog trainer and dog behaviorist here. Sorry to interrupt your pitchforks and torches fest but this article is extremely misleading and is presented as a shock factor rather then presenting an actual, studied opinion of the video.
If you watch the clip, which I did, there is a lot of subtle stuff going on. First of all, rushing water is scary to ANY sort of animal, let alone a German Shepard who isnât really a water dog like a Lab. You can see how the trainer is constantly touching the dog gently on the side and loin. He is reassuring the animal while keeping a snug grip on the collar. (Which is a flat collar btw so it canât really do any damage to the dog even with him holding it) He is also down on the animals level, not hovering above the dog. And if you look closely, you can see that this man is constantly talking to the dog, obviously reassuring the animal. Furthermore, this is a movie dog, they have dealt with all sorts of scary situations before. This is probably the very first time that this animal was introduced to this situation and I bet you money that if we saw more of the clip, you would see them repeat this process slowly and gently until the animal relaxed.
Finally, you see the animal try to pull away. Again, perfectly normal for an animal that is scared, but again, you see the trainer pull the dog back (not yank it sharply back or drag it back) and then place the dog in the water. The actual time in the water is extremely brief and you can see that the trainer doesnât let go of the dog and immediately pulls the animal out again after a few seconds. Just like putting a child in the bath tub for a little bit, the trainer is establishing that the water wonât harm the dog and kept the training session brief. Convenient that the clip stops before it shows you the trainer rewarding the animal in some way, which I can guarantee you they did.
Finally, I will leave you with two things. One, if the dog was actually being abused it would be responding by trying to snap at the person holding the collar and the body language would be pure terror with the tail language and hackles. German Shepards are not scared to tell you when they donât want to do something and this dog is no different. Two, there are so many laws and regulations in place to stop the abuse of animals in movies. There is ALWAYS a representative of these organizations on site during filming whenever there is any sort of animal involved.
Donât spread misinformation and misunderstanding please. Just like your mom forced you to eat your veggies when you were young, sometimes working with animals means encouraging them to go into situations that is way outside their instincts.
This is not training. This is flooding. The dog is actively trying to disengage from the situation: a clear sign of stress. Itâs hard to see from a distance but you see several tongue flicks and the dog is clawing and scrambling on the ground to get away from the water. This is a flight reaction that is born from fear. Just because heâs not biting or snapping doesnât mean heâs not fearful. German Shepherds can be snappy but saying the animal isnât stressed when heâs showing multiple signs of a very panicked flight response is just being willfully ignorant.
Iâve seen this behaviour countless times when working at the kennels. And itâs a sign that the animal is completely shutting down. At this point, they donât accept food since fight or flight has long since kicked in and they basically just freeze up. They also are not able to learn in this state either, due to the high amounts cortisol and adrenaline in the system. The only way you could reinforce this is by taking the dog away from the situation and the aversive stimuli (the water).
In the case of dogs at kennels, we have to basically pick them up or drag them out of sheer necessity to get them into their kennel for their own safety. In this case, there is no necessity. They could have easily desensitised the dog without the white water rapids and used rapid fire shots or CGI to create the right effect.Â
If youâre working with animals, you should only be putting them in potentially stressful situations for a valid reason. The comparison of your mum getting you to eat your veggies is invalid - a child understands why they need to eat their vegetables and they learn that theyâre good for them and can even be tasty.
Dogs donât understand why they have to be put in stressful situations and you canât explain it to them. Getting a shot for a movie is not a valid or healthy reason to put an animal under stress. And you can see that the environment is clearly unsafe and hasnât been thought through since the dog goes under the water by the sheer force of the rapids.
This is terrible animal training. This is nothing but flooding an animal with an aversive stimuli and forcing them into a dangerous and stressful situation for literally no valid reason.
yes, this!^
Thank you @mooseings for that nice rebuttal to the complete and utter bullshit above.
This is NOT a worried dog being dragged in for itâs annual shots, itâs a terrified dog being repeatedly dunked into the water by its neck for a trivial film clip. This is not appropriate handling or training.
@why-animals-do-the-thing
@mooseings i tried to talk to this âââACTUAL dog trainer and dog behavioristâââ over messageâŚâŚthey literally donât know what flooding is! đ
Reblogging for excellent commentary from mooseings
Thank you oh my god. After I read that ââŚif the dog was actually being abused it would be responding by trying to snap at the person holding the collarâŚâ I was floored. Dogs are mistreated on a daily basis and do nothing about it!! Some dogs that get literally, physically abused will never retaliate. Wow.
Also flat collars can still choke a dog, and damage their trachea. And donât start generalizing German Shepherds like this fearless breed because I have met plenty of sketchy, worried, and under confident GSDs. Like you somehow know how many movies this dog has doneâŚ
You know who else does flooding?! Cesar Milan!! Remember when he took a dog that was terrified of thunderstorms and put it in a treadmill with a thunderstorm simulation? Sounds, lights, everything? The dog was not allowed to run away from it. That is cruel. It doesnât matter wtf you say to the dog, flooding is not ok.
I forget you can just jump on Tumblr and say, guys - I have a phd in canine movie behavior here is what actually happened - and people will believe you đ
Regardless of the shitty source, a video is a video. Whatever happened before or after doesnât change the fact that this dog was stressed, and then was submerged under water and had to be rescued in their âcontrolledâ environment.
Reblogging again for the commentary. I always laugh when someone starts a post with âactual/real dog trainer/behaviorist.â As its been stated the dog is terrified, and this is not okay.
This HAS to go viral. This pathetic movie is abusing animals in order to film cheap scenes for human entertainment. The dog is clearly terrified but the âtrainersâ have no regard for her safety.

If you are an animal lover and still go watch this movie, you are a hypocrite. Do not support this movie that clearly forces a dog into a situation it clearly was afraid of and almost risked itâs life for!
Who the hell invented the word âsmexyâ and what the fuck does the letter m in it even stand for
