seeing the original script is so frustrating because why did they take this out!!! the first one demonstrates that people other than robby can see the flaws in how long samira takes, which provides at least some sort of basis for robby's frustration with her. it also establishes rapport btwn her and abbot, which would have made him letting her perform a risky procedure during the shooting more significant (and would also add to abbot's style of mentorship being a foil to robby's). and the full line in the second one does soooo much better at framing her speed as an actual problem (being distractible, failing to focus on the actual issue the patient is there for) as opposed to being a side effect of her just being empathetic towards patients. what makes it to the final cut in the show basically just makes it look like robby gets annoyed that samira takes the time to listen to her patients' justified concerns

there's this really significant dilemma in s1 of the pitt that the show never actually touches on of "personal ethics" vs. "objective legal limitations" that i wish they had actually put effort into exploringβnot the dilemma of the csa that they failed to report (bc that was just shit writing in general) but the specific dichotomy that they set up with collins being at one end and abbot being at the other.
robby snaps at collins at one point and says that she's a "rule-follower in an environment that requires flexibility" or something along those lines, which is interesting because literally all she's done at that point is speak up when she sees white men deviating from the standard of care, which is like... famously how medical abuse happens in the first place. i don't think that the writers of this show have the brains to write her like this with malicious intent, but i do think it's extremely funny that the doctor they position as the "strict, by-the-book" character is the one black woman on the main cast, while the white ex-military dude gets the robin hood characterization.
abbot's insanity, to his credit, does help a young girl gets the abortion she needs. but collins raises a really good point, which is that the consequences if anyone found out that SHE helped fabricate medical data would be ENTIRELY different from the consequences abbot (or robby) would face as white men. the show vaguely parallels this with langdon's storyline and robby not reporting him to anyone, but it's not done well enough to communicate anything significant to the audience, and they kick collins off the cast after season 1 and abbot's only role in s2 is to wear a swat uniform and be nice to robby, so they clearly never planned on elaborating on that subplot anyways. the rule-breaking just gets waved off as a character quirk, and not something that's like THE major contributor to the systemic issues that the show claims to be dedicating to calling out in the first place

Baby Jane doe, would've been such a compelling storyline with Dr. Collins. I miss her all the time. I felt her ghost this whole season.

Dana breaking over not being able to reach Robby and knowing how deep in crisis he is was heartbreaking. They've been at each others' throats and even though Dana has tried a few times, Robby's reactive to her, even when she's holding herself together despite her own distress. Knowing that right now, Robby isn't going to hear her cut me to the bone.
Her turning to Abbot who comforts her and takes it on because there's not much else she can do right now was a whole lot of emotions in a very short time. We know Abbot made moves earlier. Things are spiralling.
I wonder if Abbot and Dana have been in the habit of doing handoff to each other about Robby since PittFest.
