2019 Jen Pfeiffer The Rebel Tempranillo🍷 . . 🍷Jen Pfeiffer writes about growing up in a winemaking family, and the influence that had on her own winemaking career. Her parents bought the storied Rutherglen “Old Distillery” winery in 1984. After she studied Science and Law at Melbourne University, Jen came back to the family vineyard in 2000 and proceeded to make a gold medal Shiraz her very first vintage. And the rest is history. 2019 Jen Pfeiffer The Rebel Tempranillo🍷 . . 🍷Jen Pfeiffer grew up around her family’s winery before traveling the world to hone her own winemaking craft. She’s now back home in Oz making her own selection of Aussie wines. Her 2019 Tempranillo is just starting to open up, and will do well to sit for a few years. It’s not overly complex, but great for pairing with BBQ or spicy meats, with hints of sour cherry and a touch of astringent vinegar. Some softer notes of ripe plum round out the palate. 2018 The Butterfly Effect Reserve Shiraz, South Eastern Australia🍷 . . 🍷Not all wine can be awesome; this is one we probably won’t try again, but if you like a sweeter Shiraz, you may find this appealing. This Shiraz hits hard with vanilla, probably the result of new, young oak barrels. Plum and vanilla notes predominate, with a bit of menthol on the nose. 2019 Marchesi Napa Valley Chardonnay 🥂 . . 🥂Today is international Chardonnay Day! In honor of the official excuse to imbibe, we’re trying David Marchesi’s 2018 Chardonnay, made from select Napa Valley grapes. This Chardonnay is slightly dry, with just a subtle hint of oak. It’s smooth and buttery, earthy, but also has some crisp grapefruit notes. Chardonnay is grown on every continent (except Antarctica, of course!), but it originates in the Burgundy region of France. The grape is a cross between Pinot Noir and Gouais Blanc.
