People who think Ritsu in the big clean up arc doesn't make any sense have clearly never been a teenager with undiagnosed OCD before
Like. Okay. Listen. Listen.
Ritsu reads so much like he has undiagnosed OCD that it's actually insane. His constant "but if I don't do this the world will end" about keeping Mob calm and happy. His obsessive need for perfection. The fact that people thinking he's good sends him into a spiral. It is So There in a way I don't know how to explain to someone without OCD, in the same way that I don't know how to explain why I think Reigen is such an accurate portrayal of depression to someone who doesn't have depression or why Mob is so relatable to systems to someone who isn't a system. It's like. It sounds like we mean it surface level but we Do Not. It's everywhere in how they act and interact with the world. Okay. Okay.
Something I really wanna address though is I see people saying that him going "I don't care about you at all" and how CLEARLY he's wrong, why did he say that? A lot of people will go that he's just being edgy or that it's a massive heel turn and like. This is what I mean when I say that reading him as having OCD makes everything he does in big clean up arc make so much sense. He's like...he thinks that because he's so angry at Mob and resents him and is terrified, he doesn't love him at all. Clearly NONE of it came from genuine care or worry. Clearly he never loved his brother. (Clearly he's awful. Clearly he's just faking everything.) It reminds me so damn much of myself when I was 13 and hadn't been diagnosed yet. I was spiralling because I had negative thoughts about my best friend and I thought that meant I never loved them and was faking loving them and I was a horrible person. Like. Being thirteen and having OCD does weird shit to your brain!
And it's like. Ritsu has never been taught how to deal with his anger. And when you never see other people who get angry in the ways you do, or have the trauma you do, or have intrusive thoughts, you think you are the only person who does that. So if he had that urge to do something awful, he WANTED to do it. If he's angry at his brother, he never loved him at all. Because he's like thirteen and when you're a thirteen year old who doesn't know what an intrusive thought is or you've never seen people talk about the feelings you constantly experience you feel so fucking alone!!! Yeah sure he's edgy but also like. He is a child who thinks he's been lying about EVERYTHING because he was lying about a lot. He isn't even incorrect about everything he said. He does resent Mob. He does fear him. But he interprets that as "then I never cared." Because when you're thirteen and you've never seen people talk about what you go through, you don't have the experience to draw from that goes "well it's probably NOT just me" because everything feels so definitive! Augh. This is incoherent. But. Bangs my head against the wall. Guys you don't get it Ritsu is so OCD coded to me
