well i wouldnt call it autism just for myself because i dont like to throw the word around but i think "infatuation" fits pretty well. I'll try to keep it short because i'll run on for hours about serizawa if someone lets me lol. Nevermind thats a lost cause this post is gonna be long as fuckk.
Frick Yes I Also Think Of His Mom. I havent exactly come up with a proper name in my head though. I like to think that she works as the director for a small branch of seasonings library, and she volunteers at the community/seniors centre hosting knitting nights and book clubs. she gets along very well with everyone there. I want her life to be fufilling outside of her relationship with katsuya during his years spent in his room.
Serizawa has a crazy amount of books in his room, and i like to consider him the king of self help books -> credit to his mother. Any time there were too many copies donated of books or a sale day, she'd collect a book or a small stack to bring to him.
I was so excited when i found out the ova had audio extras (godbless @katyatalks for posting and translating all of them lol). Getting to hear his mom's voice is super exciting. She's a total worrywort just like Katsuya is. I think they have a lot in common. I sort of see Shou's and Serizawas relationship as a parallel to his and his moms with how helpless they both felt, and serizawa sort of repeating the cycle that he felt growing up hence why he didn't think he was capable of helping shou. he was paralyzed by guilt and shame just like his mom probably was about not being able to him, not for a lack of trying. Imagine being a newly single mother and all of a sudden your baby starts making the building shake with mind powers, no wonder she felt helpless.
His mom moved to seasoning city to get her library studies degree and found she really loved it there. Not long after graduating she met serizawas father- a suuuper whiny, depressing coward of a guy who likes to talk big but never fully commits, just a chainsmoking bum (if youve seen Tokyo Godfathers, picture the "dad" guy whose freshly broken up wih the woman that stole the baby). they date for nearly a year before she finds out shes pregnant and he skips town one night, leaving nothing behind but a sorry excuse for an apology letter on the table and a couple hundred bucks for diapers.
katsuyas grandma moves to seasoning city to take care of his mom as shes pregnant, living in the spare bedroom in an already tiny apartment. Her aunties visit weekly on rotation for support too. Katsuya's powers are present as soon as he's born, just like mobs, but they start to get unmanageable by the time he can walk. He has separation anxiety, and sudden cracks in her rented apartment become harder and harder to explain to her landlord.
she uses the money shes saved over the years, as well as some support from her family to buy an old house closer to the rural area outside of the city. far enough to not disturb any neighbors and away from big buildings, but close enough to drive to work, and a 15 minute walk from the nearest school.
I dont think that she was ever harsh on katsuya like ive seen depicted in fan work i think shes nearly as timid as him (but shes very capable and mentally strong dont get it twisted). shes also a little disorganized. not messy, but a scatterbrain for sure.
I also think she's amazing at card games. she would try to bond with katsuya by playing cards because theyre easy to slide under the door, but it became more difficult over time the worse his depression got. shes very observant, though at times she can be a little too trusting of people and has a hard time saying "no" (wonder where katsuya gets THAT from). after loosing serizawa to toichiro and not hearing from him for 3 years aside from envelopes full of money hed send to her, she gets far more protective.
Like in the audio cd, she's pretty suspicious of reigen at first. i like to imagine she even stages an interregation on reigen in the earlier days of serizawa working there out of being protective over her son (she uses a fake name and pretends to be a client, reigen has no idea who she is, but feels like something fishy is going on because her acting is shakey and she cant get her story straight. serizawa arrives to work in the middle of the appointment absolutely mortified)
as her and reigen get to know each other, they get along super well. she can be surprisingly witty and funny out of the blue.
