Dreams are worth fighting for.
This is a picture of me sitting in a rented dance studio in Los Angeles where I would meet clients… I hated it. I took this picture so that one day I could look back and say, “remember when?” From six clients a week to having worked with over 15,000 singers and no availability for my private session times. Cheers to keeping up the fight for your dreams people. Win.
Chat with Jason
Jason: I feel like I get down on myself sometimes because I think I should already be at a certain level in my life by now, ya know?
Michael: Totally, I feel like I've had this idea in the back of my mind for a while - "by the time your 21 you should be making good money, when your 25 you should already be at the top of your game, and when your 30 you should have everything figured out in relationships and finances, etc." Ha!
Jason: Whats amazing is that I've been reading this awesome book lately that has made me start to alter my mind. Instead of thinking that I've missed the boat and that I should already be at some preconceived point in my life - I realize that I'm right were I need to be at this moment... and that's okay. The more I get that into my mind, the more weight is lifted off my shoulders.

A cluttered mind is a tired one. If you're constantly stuffing your mind and life with things to do, when is there time for you to process and create?

Audition Reminders
In general, this is what the people behind the table are thinking: 1. We want you to win and be at your best. 2. We want to learn more about you during your audition. (Don't just think that you need to be "professional" - whatever that means. Be the way you normally are so that we can see all the cool interesting parts of you.) 3. We want to know if you would fit on another project we're working on either now or in the future. The truth is that whether you are singing at a musical theatre, film, or tv audition the people behind the table want you to rock. So as you move into audition season this year, don't let silly ideas get in the way of you having a total win at your audition. -Michael

Happy Holiday Hydration: just a reminder to all singers spreading holiday cheer out in the winter weather. Cold is dry. Keep a water bottle and some non-menthol lozenges near by to help keep the moisture moving. A hydrated voice is a happy one. The Risk of Happiness
It's easy to be happy... isn't it? Over the past 8yrs I've worked for some excellent companies. One was a production company that produced the 2nd Broadway National Tour of Mamma Mia!. The other is a tech company that invented the iPhone. Needless to say, these companies knew what they were doing and how to maintain a happy set of employees. Durning my time with these two well oiled machines I served in different positions from ensemble member to market trainer. My pay was nothing to complain about, my treatment was excellent, and my co-workers were inspiring. What else do you want? I still remember it perfectly. I was sitting backstage during a performance reading a book while waiting to go on stage. At this time in life I was traveling the Americas, working under 30hrs a week, and on one of the highest paying contracts in the broadway circle. Every month I was flying out my future wife, eating at fancy restaurants, and staying in beautiful hotels. Life was good. But there I was, sitting in my chair waiting to go on when suddenly I looked around the theater and thought to myself, "eh?" Finding joy in what you do can be difficult. So you have two options - change what you're doing or re-inspire it. When having my "eh?" moment backstage I knew that it was time for a change. If I left, I would suddenly lose all the comforts that this career path brought me. Life could get harder, I might have to make some serious adjustments for a while. So I weighed the risks, made up my mind, and went for it... Twice. Two times I left excellent positions at two amazing companies to seek what I enjoyed. Through these ups and downs I continued to fight for what I enjoyed. Fast forward to 2010 and we are opening MMOV Studios. I feel so proud, inspired, and excited. All the hard work, the struggle, the trade-offs. I was really enjoying what I was doing. I was happy with what I was doing. The risk of happiness presents itself in lots of areas of life. From deciding where you should live, to challenging what you believe spiritually, to what you should change/re-inspire in your relationships. But the risk is always worth the happiness. Win. Remember: Seeking out happiness doesn't necessarily only benefit you. Because of your happiness discoveries you'll be a better, more positive, more confident person to be around. Your pursuit of happiness can also be a joint one. For example, you and your spouse or life partner decide that you can have a better life. In this instance you can both reap the benefits of taking the risks to being happier.
