Toph is this force of nature in her stubborn, terrifyingly capable, emotionally constipated way, to the point of comedy…….. yet Sokka is the one thing she never quite figures out how to beat??? She cares about him, she loves him, and that’s not something she can just bend into the earth’s core the way she really wants to most of the time. It’s hard to let herself feel, let alone be forced to sit with it every day of her life no matter what form of creative avoidance she tries

She wouldn’t want pity over it, either. She’d rather die. She’d joke about it, insult him, act unaffected, move on with her life, have entire relationships and children and accomplishments, but there’d still be this tiny, buried part of her that softens around him in a way nobody else ever gets to see. Don’t tell her but Toph Beifong can overpower almost anything except her own vulnerability or wanting someone so much that she can’t even suppress it properly. I think Sokka being the one person who could genuinely hurt her without ever meaning to is insanely important to her character. So important

“Ember Island Players”, but the version where the show decided it was actually important to address that kissing people without consent is not okay, even if you think that person is your “forever girl”. Especially if you think that person is your “forever girl” but she kind of just rejected you. Remember kids, unless you get an enthusiastic yes in consent, then the answer is no.

Aka in this house we stan Katara, and are still upset 12 years later about how the forced kiss was never mentioned again when homegirl is a major character and was clearly very upset by it.

Also, if you think it would be fun to learn how to create gif manipulations and decide to teach yourself…. choose a less ambitious first project than creating an entire “missing” scene from a cartoon. I am very tired.

for sokka, who, more than anything, is a realist and his cynical nature prevents him from trusting people easily, a promise is absolute. he learned early on in his life that it is something that can’t be said lightly but a commitment that comes with a lot of responsibility and has to be fulfilled no matter the cost. he refuses to make promises he cannot keep because, to him, broken promises are a form of betrayal. this stems from his childhood, where his father would often make promises he was unable to keep, so sokka grew up associating empty words with disappointment and abandonment. and because of that, he values reliability over sentiment and prefers to express love through consistency, protection and presence rather than verbal reassurance.

toph’s relationship with words is different but it leads her to the same conclusion. having spent her life surrounded by overprotective parents who constantly claimed to know what was best for her, she learned early that words could be manipulative, performative and ultimately meaningless. they promised understanding while refusing to listen, claimed that the restrictions and deprivation of her freedom came from a place of love and dismissed her frustrations with vague assurances such as “you’ll understand one day”. because of this, she came to distrust language itself. words became, in a sense, a kind of “vocal appearance”, something people used to present themselves rather than reveal the truth.
