Totally normal for a legitimate for-profit company to refuse to reclaim or stop running their products even after they're no longer being paid to do so. I'm sure it's very normal to just keep running your service for free when your contract's been terminated. Spending money to continue running cameras that supposedly no one is looking at is definitely not an indicator they are just run by the federal government to spy on everyone and only a wacko conspiracy theorist would think so.
Guys if you like this stuff you really should go subscribe to 404 Media. They are independent journalists and they have been going hard at Flock. They also broke the story about AI companies buying up old books to scan and in the process destroy:
ISBNdb, a company that sources printed books for AI companies to turn into training data, tells clients “the optics problem is real.”
You have to give them an email to read for free, they did this due to AI scraping, but I've never been contacted by them and honestly the work is so good that it's not a huge hurdle IMO.
