In case you aren't plugged into the FFXIV news sphere (I don't blame you for not being so), the last couple days have been a real roller coaster. It was discovered someone created a stalker mod. Well, ANOTHER stalker mod. There was one before that got so notorious that Yoshi P, the head director of FFXIV, had to publicly address it and they had to shift some stuff around to shut down its function. Someone made a new one that works around those workarounds. As an aside, it's known they did a lot of it with vibecoding, because of course. Anyway, this thing tracks almost everything if someone is able to scan your character with it. Where you go, when you log in and out, who you group with, etc. Stalker's paradise, and the creator made a website that you could look up people on if their data was caught in a scan. When asked why, they claimed "I just love data." Like data of others is a thing you can just take. The site had a takedown request form, but it required you give an email, then later the creator said he wouldn't remove a character just because someone was mad at them. Which I am sure breaks several privacy laws. People flooded the takedown form, then flooded Square's reporting for privacy violation. This morning the site for the mod was shut down with a big boo-hoo going away message about how they just wanted to help people to connect, but they super prommy they're deleting all the data, honestly. Reports are saying they're being totally kicked off by the site hosting company they used. LMAO.
