Thesis: the rise of fanwank and anti culture correlates directly with diminished understanding of what “romantic”, in a literary sense, actually means.

It doesn’t mean “this is ideal or healthy or even realistic”. It means “this is beautiful, this is tragic, this is grotesque, this stirs emotion”, even if it’s not, as @starryroom puts it, something you would be comfortable seeing play out in front of you at Taco Bell. I know some fic writers use musical note symbols/emojis to denote when an Eridian is speaking a word that Grace doesn't know, but I also know that's not very friendly for TTS users, so is there any alternative that keeps the musical connotation without making screen readers read out every musical note?

I understand why some fic writers see the appeal, but Grace having a child on Erid is so morally irresponsible, I just can't get behind that idea at all.

#project hail mary #I mean you're raising a kid in a bubble with absolutely no other people around for them to interact with??#that's abusive even if that's not the intention #the kid has to grow in x2 gravity so will definitely be physically stunted #and then they can never really choose to go anywhere because the biodome is all that there is #if they want to see earth or other people they would have to travel eight years through space which is a HUGE ask #and in doing so they'd leave behind everything they've ever known #and end up in a society they have absolutely no frame of reference for with zero safety net or support #like I know babies are awesome but long-term this feels unbelievably cruel to do to someone #what happens after grace dies?? his kid(s) are just. stuck in the biodome waiting for it to eventually happen to them #or I guess they can engage in incest to keep the family line going. eugh #extremely unpleasant when you think about the long-term consequences #creating life is not a decision that should be made recklessly #and I think an alien planet that's inhospitable to your kind is the worst possible place to do it #THAT BEING SAID I would LOVE a fic where Grace makes this decision anyway and his kid grows up to resent him for it
