Gooseworx is racist.
Jax is an abuser and not well written in the slightest. Complex my ass, all she did was abuse everyone and would cry whenever they shot back at her. I dont care if she is Trans, thats great and wonderful for her! She's still a horrible abuser who threatened all the women in the circus and had many thoughts of hurting them and tried to push everyone to constantly abstract. Absolute bullshit, I have not seen a more horrible character writing in any other show ever. Not to mention how fucking dense some of the fans are when you try to tell them
"Hey we aren't mad that isn't she lovely was used for a Trans woman, we're angry because goose and Michael kovack have extreme histories of racism and the song is SPECFICALLY about a black baby girl coming out into the world before anyone can cast judgement on her"
But no, let's make it about the abuser who has done nothing useful with her life in the slightest and tried to push all of her friends to abstract. This show is such bullshit and I hope gooseworx never produces another show in her life.
The argument that a song made by a black songwriter can’t be used by anyone other than another black person is basically an argument for segregation. You want to keep black songs for black people and white songs for white people.
Never mind the fact that the estate for the song has to sign off on its usage. As in, legally they can’t use that song unless they get permission from the creator’s estate to do so. Which means the legal owners of that song felt it was appropriately used.
This segregation mindset ignores the very concept of juxtaposition and transformative use of music. Putting a song meant for one thing juxtaposed against something else is supposed to make you THINK about what that means. By putting that song in that moment it is meant to make you SAD that Jax never got the chance to be born as a woman through transitioning.
Anger and hatred make you emotional. When you’re emotional you don’t think rationally. When you don’t think rationally you say a lot of hurtful ignorant and harmful things. It is WILD to me that one of the biggest accusations of anti-black sentiment from Gooseworx is basically endorsing segregation between black and white people.
Fuck you.
Actually the issue is that the person who put the song in the show and made it is extremely racist and this song SPECIFICALLY talks about how lovely his newborn black baby girl is because he knows that everyone will view her in the most vile and racist ways. Nobody is saying that black songs should be for black people and white songs should be for white people. What Im saying is that it is poor taste seeing as what she believes in herself and then also the song now not being associated with its original roots but now for Jax. Go under the songs comment section and its talking about Jax constantly which is taking away the actual meaning of the song. There are 1000 other songs that could've been used. Just say you dont want to listen to black voices, its okay.
So let me get this straight…
A song about how a newborn baby girl is lovely, made by a person who was scared of how she’d be viewed by society…
DOESN’T apply to a trans girl coming out (a newborn baby girl if you will) in this day and age of a character who literally fears being viewed as disgusting society?
The only difference in the message of the song is the color of the skin of the person it’s referencing. So insisting that it can ONLY be used for black people is racism. That’s segregation. You are being racist.
Stop being so fucking racist.
You are forgetting BLACK baby girl. People who are Trans definitely go through oppression and viewed in a different lens in society. I am not denying that in the slighest and its still abhorrent how much transphobia is rampant. What I am saying though is that black people still go through a very different factor of oppression (key example: slavery) and that this specific song is coming from a time where once again, black people were still demonized and killed and especially black women are one of the most unprotected groups. You ever heard of intersectionality? You would benefit from it. I think you are projecting your racism onto me.
You… you understand you can take a song that meant one thing and use it for another thing? Like that’s an established media trick that’s done ALL THE TIME. This is not some new thing. And again, the license owners of the song you object to them using AGREED to let them use it. So your objection already falls flat on its face because the CREATOR OF THE SONG THINKS ITS OKAY.
And no, I haven’t forgotten the black thing. That’s the one aspect that I keep addressing as being your biggest gripe! Because your need to keep the song in the context of a black child (without the possibility that the song can be used for ANY child) IS ENDORSING SEGREGATION.
Juxtaposition of music that at first glance doesn’t seem like it belongs is important media literacy 101. You are supposed to understand the origin of the song and then ask yourself HOW does using it in THIS instance change its meaning and message? That’s basic filmmaking that’s been going on since the dawn of filmmaking.
The ONLY reason you have an issue with this is because of the color of their skin. That’s it. Even the black owners of the song don’t give a shit, so why the fuck do you? You’re just trying to find something to bitch about, and you’ve set up a table with no legs to stand on. You are shouting about nothing and missing the point of everything.
Grow. The fuck. Up.
You dick riding hard. There's no use in arguing with you. Have a good one though.

I don’t need the Jax stans to come at me with this but I never found the character to be that interesting. I understand his point from an antithesis standpoint, he’s the opposite of Pomni in how she reaches out to others and Jax does not therefore things end off worse for him,
However, I still find her boring and by the end of it, I ended the series enjoying Caine more than I did Jax which is crazy since before episode 8, I would’ve never agreed with that. And it wasn’t because she was an asshole although the schtick got repetitive to me. I never understood why just because I can enjoy the asshole character but not Jax. Then I realized
Jax has no skills to him. He’s not good at anything, no skills or redeeming qualities: we are shown that Jax is an asshole and then given his tragic past. That’s really it. Sure he understands how to be a cartoon and has a key gimmick, but Kinger already knew and was the one to explain that to the others. You could argue Jax is funny but the jokes are hit or miss and to me, Jax isn’t the funniest. He quite literally has nothing to make me root for him, therefore once he abstracted, I moved on and forgot about him. And that’s literally it. I like the fan ideas and aus for Transfemme Jax and that’s all I mildly enjoy. Other than that, Jax was just a basic character to follow and ended the series as a meh.
Believe when I say I understand why Jax was given as much focus that she got. I just find her boring

When I say that I'm obsessed with TADC I don't mean it in a good way. This show had potential but it completely fumbled what it could've been and that just kind of amazes me

Ragatha: *accidentally trauma dump about her abusive mom*
Everyone: "(ー_ー;)..........yikes."
Ragatha: "oh my gosh I'm so sorry I made you uncomfortable with my feelings I was just being silly, teehee!
Jax: "*explain in vague details how his mom was bad* anyway I shoved her to the ground and left her to die"
Ribbit: "oh my gosh you poor baby, I'm sure you didn't hurt her that bad and even if you did she probably deserved it btw can I suck your dick?"
Jax: "fuck you bitch, you ruined my tough guy persona I hope you kill yourself"
Pomni, after witnessing this and more: "I didn't know you played the piano 🥹"
Jax: "leave me alone foid"
Tadc fans are always like “omg I hate the toxic side of the fandom!!” And the toxic side in question is like “I don’t think the writing in this part was that good also you shouldn’t be racist.”
Jobby is a lolicon. Jobby support shadman, a self-admitted pedophile. They took a song about a father's love for his infant daughter, changed the meaning to make it about a 22 years old misogynist and had a pedophiles supporter who draw sexualized little girls sing it. It's a song about loving your daughter and they made a straight male pedophile sing it. It's a song about finding joy and happiness in a marginalized community and they made an anti black edgelord sing it. They took every opportunity to deface this song within plausible deniability. They butchered a song by a black man and released the episode on juneteenth. They mocked police brutality towards pocs in their advertisements.
The reach tadc has is insane. This song is largely known for the version covered by jobby and recontextualized to honor an adult misogynistic queerphobic character. You should be disgusted. This should should be your wake up call. If you still give glitch and goose the benefit of the doubt, you're either in denial or you're okay with giving this song's legacy to racist pedophiles.

yeah, let's just ignore the fact that the song was made by a black man and ignore all the racist shit going on with Gooseworx and the crew, and twist this entire narrative to make it seem like people who criticize this choice are transphobic.
and sure, Jax is not white. but her VA is and so is Gooseworx. this entire story was written by a white woman. so i don't think you can use the excuse of "actually Jax is asian!" especially when that fact was only revealed at the end of the series. not to mention, people of color can be racist too.
and if we're talking about transphobic stereotypes and propaganda about trans people being predators, maybe we should address the fact that Jax sexually harasses Gangle? “you think trans people being associated with children is wrong!” no one said that, but y'all seem to think it's okay for said trans character to canonically be a misogynist and a sex offender?
someone just called TADC "this generation's Gravity Falls" ... 😭
At Alex Hirsh's self insert didnt become the worst character in the show
It is kind of infuriating to see people actively admit they didn't give a shit when black people were being harassed and ignored. It is kind of infuriating to see that people only care about TADC sucking now that nonblack people are also hurt. It is kind of infuriating, yeah.
It is really amazing seeing this get over 100 notes on less than a day. That I will wholeheartedly admit.
I can't help but appreciate that so much of the crit community is speaking out against this. And, as much as I don't fault myself for ignoring the positives on a vent post, I do kinda wish I acknowledged my gratitude sooner.
So. Thanks guys! Together we can help make fandom a safer place for black people (and POC in general)! Or, at the very least, we can keep embarrassing racists.
I guess if making racist jokes is fine if you're a 23 year old white man (or a white person in your 20s in general in Ashley and Goose's case) then I, a 19 year old black genderqueer person, can just say whatever the fuck I want. I could say the most heinous shit imaginable but it'll be okay! I'm 19! I'm just a boiby! And it happened a whole two seconds ago anyway so why are you still mad about it

Man, stevie wonder's "isn't she lovely" is such a sweet and heartwarming song.
Really wish I didn't discover it by finding out that racist edgelord 4channer hired a known lolicon to make a horribly distateful cover of said song while palying it for a pity party of her abusersona.
It's honestly kinda infuriating how when someone who never watched tadc and is outside of the fandom asks about the discourse and people respond with "people are just mad that Jax is trans and an asshole", cause like. Chat, the racism. Chat, the bad writing. Chat, the numerous amount of bigotry woven within the writing.
It just feels like a gross oversimplification of things
