I WANTED TO SEND THIS OVER AT TADC CRIT. I JUST. I need you to see this this is genuinely how tadc fans act about them-

Jax is an abuser and not well written in the slightest. Complex my ass, all she did was abuse everyone and would cry whenever they shot back at her. I dont care if she is Trans, thats great and wonderful for her! She's still a horrible abuser who threatened all the women in the circus and had many thoughts of hurting them and tried to push everyone to constantly abstract. Absolute bullshit, I have not seen a more horrible character writing in any other show ever. Not to mention how fucking dense some of the fans are when you try to tell them

Never mind the fact that the estate for the song has to sign off on its usage. As in, legally they can’t use that song unless they get permission from the creator’s estate to do so. Which means the legal owners of that song felt it was appropriately used.

This segregation mindset ignores the very concept of juxtaposition and transformative use of music. Putting a song meant for one thing juxtaposed against something else is supposed to make you THINK about what that means. By putting that song in that moment it is meant to make you SAD that Jax never got the chance to be born as a woman through transitioning.

Anger and hatred make you emotional. When you’re emotional you don’t think rationally. When you don’t think rationally you say a lot of hurtful ignorant and harmful things. It is WILD to me that one of the biggest accusations of anti-black sentiment from Gooseworx is basically endorsing segregation between black and white people.

A song about how a newborn baby girl is lovely, made by a person who was scared of how she’d be viewed by society…

DOESN’T apply to a trans girl coming out (a newborn baby girl if you will) in this day and age of a character who literally fears being viewed as disgusting society?

The only difference in the message of the song is the color of the skin of the person it’s referencing. So insisting that it can ONLY be used for black people is racism. That’s segregation. You are being racist.

And no, I haven’t forgotten the black thing. That’s the one aspect that I keep addressing as being your biggest gripe! Because your need to keep the song in the context of a black child (without the possibility that the song can be used for ANY child) IS ENDORSING SEGREGATION.

Juxtaposition of music that at first glance doesn’t seem like it belongs is important media literacy 101. You are supposed to understand the origin of the song and then ask yourself HOW does using it in THIS instance change its meaning and message? That’s basic filmmaking that’s been going on since the dawn of filmmaking.

However, I still find her boring and by the end of it, I ended the series enjoying Caine more than I did Jax which is crazy since before episode 8, I would’ve never agreed with that. And it wasn’t because she was an asshole although the schtick got repetitive to me. I never understood why just because I can enjoy the asshole character but not Jax. Then I realized

Jax has no skills to him. He’s not good at anything, no skills or redeeming qualities: we are shown that Jax is an asshole and then given his tragic past. That’s really it. Sure he understands how to be a cartoon and has a key gimmick, but Kinger already knew and was the one to explain that to the others. You could argue Jax is funny but the jokes are hit or miss and to me, Jax isn’t the funniest. He quite literally has nothing to make me root for him, therefore once he abstracted, I moved on and forgot about him. And that’s literally it. I like the fan ideas and aus for Transfemme Jax and that’s all I mildly enjoy. Other than that, Jax was just a basic character to follow and ended the series as a meh.

The reach tadc has is insane. This song is largely known for the version covered by jobby and recontextualized to honor an adult misogynistic queerphobic character. You should be disgusted. This should should be your wake up call. If you still give glitch and goose the benefit of the doubt, you're either in denial or you're okay with giving this song's legacy to racist pedophiles.

yeah, let's just ignore the fact that the song was made by a black man and ignore all the racist shit going on with Gooseworx and the crew, and twist this entire narrative to make it seem like people who criticize this choice are transphobic.

and sure, Jax is not white. but her VA is and so is Gooseworx. this entire story was written by a white woman. so i don't think you can use the excuse of "actually Jax is asian!" especially when that fact was only revealed at the end of the series. not to mention, people of color can be racist too.

I can't help but appreciate that so much of the crit community is speaking out against this. And, as much as I don't fault myself for ignoring the positives on a vent post, I do kinda wish I acknowledged my gratitude sooner.
