Frown made his way up the hill, slowly approaching the castle. When he managed to reach it, he found himself pausing, hesitantly glancing around, as though someone would show up to explain what he was supposed to do there. “So I.. I guess I just knock?”

He reached out and gave the door two firm knocks. He was caught off guard by the near immediate response of a young girl’s voice from the other side. “Who’s there?~”

… Well, this is awkward. “That’s kind of what I’m trying to find out.”

“‘That’s kind of what I’m trying to find out’ whooo?~”

“I.. what?”

The door opened, a cat unicorn hybrid standing in front of him- likely the ‘Unikitty’ the voices mentioned. “Well that wasn’t a very funny knock-knock joke.”

Her visible disappointment quickly faded in favor of excitement, “Oh, Master Frown! You’re here! Not gonna lie I kiiinda forgot we asked you to come over, but the more the merrier!”

… Okay, so Frown is his name? Probably??

“Wait, you.. Invited me over?” He processed that for a moment, quickly finding an odd amount of relief in one particular implication. “Wait, that means you actually know who I am, right?”

“Well duh! Of course I know who you are, silly! We’re friends!” She smiled, brightly hovering off the ground a small bit.

“We.. we are?”

She grinned, giggling, “You didn’t deny it!~” after her amusement passed, she said something that.. Seemed like it could help explain why he was supposed to be there. Maybe?

“Sadly, we sorta already burst most of the balloons.” She turned to the others, who were fending off some small balloon animal. Said balloon animal quickly had a flamethrower being pointed at its body.

“Dr. Fox, don’t you think that’s a bit overkill?!” A grey block asked in a slightly panicked tone.

“It’s never enough kill!” She responded, showing no hesitation with incinerating the rubber creature.

Frown just.. stared, completely at a loss for words. Which, honestly, what does one even say in response to that?

“Buuuut, we could always make more if you’d li-” Unikitty didn’t even finish her sentence before a collective, uproaring “NO!” was heard from inside. She sighed a bit, groaning out a “fiiine” before smiling back up at Frown.

“Okay so balloon popping may be off the table, but that doesn’t mean we can’t hang out!” She stepped away from the doorway, heading further into the castle. She paused, turning back and giving him a smile and a head tilt.

Guess that means he was following.

Unikitty led him to the rest of the group, humming and skipping along the way. “Hey guys, Master Frown’s here!” She beamed, motioning to the amnesiac in question.

The dog in the group gasped, rushing up before halting just as quickly. “I don’t know sis, something seems.. different about him.”

Unikitty paused, looking Frown up and down. “Now that you mention it…” Her gaze locked onto his crack, turning into an intense stare. “New haircut?” She asked.

“I.. don’t have hair.” Frown responded plainly.

“Well not anymore, that’s how haircuts work, silly!”

This brief lack of understanding from all parties involved was cut off by the dog, “Wait a second- this guy’s wearing a scarf! That’s not Master Frown, it’s-” He gasped in shock at his definitely accurate revelation, “Master Frown’s evil twin! No, wait, Master Frown was already kind of evil.”

Unikitty shook her head, “But Master Frown is good now! Which means this guy must be the evil twin! Though that is making me wonder if that means he used to be the good twin. Suspicious..”

The fox came up, observing him, “A twin you say? Fascinating..” She pulled out a scalpel and gained a far more imposing tone, “Mind coming to the lab for a bit?”

Frown jolted back, very much not wanting to be a part of whatever experiments she may have planned. And his panic only increased once the bird reptile hybrid.. thing chimed in. “If that’s Master Frown’s evil twin, I get to punch him, right?” He turned to Unikitty, genuinely waiting for a confirmation.

The grey brick sighed. “You all know that’s Master Frown in a scarf, right?”

The request for reassurance just sent the group spiraling further into chaos, many people talking over each other at once, to the point that trying to make out anything was near impossible. Something about the discordant clash of voices struck a chord..

“Will. You. All. Shut. Up!” The sudden outburst caught the attention of the whole group. Finally, they might actually listen. “Look, I have absolutely no clue what’s going on, who you all are, or who I am. Do I have a twin? Don’t know, couldn’t tell you. Everything I knew before,” He pointed at his crack, “Gone. Blank. And since all of you apparently know me, I’d like some answers.”

There was a few seconds of silence as everyone processed that rant. Frown held his breath, hoping that this might finally be how he gets some kind of explanation-

“Are you sure this isn’t some kind of prank or trick or scheme?” Unikitty looked him over, evidently suspicious.

He let out a groan, before putting on an incredibly passive aggressive smile. “You know what? I am done. I’m going. If none of you are going to help, I’m not bothering to stay-” As he turned around to leave, he ran into the grey brick, who actually seemed concerned.

“Are.. are you being serious right now? Do you remember anything?”

Frown sighed, crossing his arms, “I don’t remember anything. I woke up in a forest with a massive headache and no memory, found a scarf, got chased by a bee, and came here. That’s all I know.”

The brick eyed his crack before sighing. “He’s telling the truth. He really does have amnesia.”

Unikitty paused, her voice suddenly gaining a sense of worry. “You’re.. You’re sure? He actually really doesn’t remember..?”

“Princess. Do you honestly think Master Frown could act this well?”

That alone had the entire group nodding and agreeing.

“Wow. I really didn’t know how to act, did I?” Frown asked, only to be met with a few gasps from the group.

“He didn’t jump to defending himself!” the shades guy gasped. The mildly threatening fox (really building up his list of internal nicknames) followed with,  “He really does have amnesia!”

He couldn’t help but dwell on how that was the confirmation for them “What.. what was I like?”

“Oh- that’s a biiiig question that we will answer later- preferably in theatrical form.” Unikitty insisted.

“We should probably look over that crack before anything..” The brick sighed.

“Good call.” Dr. Fox nodded, before turning to Frown, once again pulling out her scalpel and asking “Would you mind coming to the lab for a quick check up?”

Frown jolted back, still kind of terrified of this rather off the rails scientist (which is fair honestly.) She quickly froze, regaining her composure. “Oh, sorry about that, still caught up on the twin stuff.” She cleared her throat and restated in a much less threatening tone, “Would you mind coming to the lab for a quick check up?”

Frown gave a sigh of relief, quickly followed by a nod. “Yeah, finding out why I don’t remember anything and getting something for this headache is probably a good call.”

“Alright! Memory regain check up party, let’s dooo this!” Unikitty beamed, already rushing over to the lab as soon as the cheer ended.

Frown paused before glancing towards the brick, “Is she always like this?-”

“Yes.”
