i think this is a pretty strong response to a bad OP unaware of (or deliberating ignoring) its shipdom’s tendency to engage in equally ridiculous purity politics, and  it’s a shame that in any case, I’ve had about two good conversations about Kylo-Rey with either antis or reylos. This is about purity culture but it’s also about the utter lack of critical engagement with character complexity and moral arcs from a literary or story perspective. This is about people unable to separate their fanon depictions of characters they like from canon. It’s about so many things. Even the meta about Star Wars meta ends up gross and simplistic.

What do you mean disproportionate like Rey gets tortured again and Luke and Holdo and Phasma literally die and Hux’s abuse by Snoke/Kylo is a punchline and the corpse of the big baddie becomes a visual gag. They went into hysterics every time Hux got owned by Snoke or Kylo. They also giggled at the visual of Snoke’s dead tongue hanging out of his dead head and the way it fell over when Hux came in. Like, his actual corpse is turned into a gag. I don’t recall a single instance of people laughing when Poe/Finn/Rose got hurt. Someone near me actually gasped when Leia slapped Poe.

people saying we should just shut up and like the movie because of the “poc representation”… that phrase means almost nothing to me anymore on its own, if i see Poc Characters of color being mistreated im gonna complain no matter how much screentime they get !

Way more compassionate and forgiving of Kylo than I feel, but this is such a smart and lucid and clear-eyed take on both Kylo’s and Rey’s personalities, how and why they fuck up, and how they understand/misunderstand their perception of each other. Spot on in Kylo acknowledging his father’s warning, and the subverted Snow White imagery.
