whatever it is you need good luck for, i wish you good luck. tests, job, home life, social life, mental health, physical health, love life. you name it. this post is wishing you good luck on all of that.
WAX AND WANE: spy!tashi duncan x spy!reader. 1.5k. sfw. fem!reader.
MAKING THE CHOICE to leave was not one you made lightly. it wasnât a whimâ a fleeting thought that would disappear just as easily as it had formed in the first placeâ and it wasnât made in haste. youâve been stewing on this idea for years; you were getting out of that hellhole, one way or another.
â ⌠NO, DECIDING TO leave was something youâd thought about for weeks, months, years⌠but if you were honest with yourself, youâd admit that youâve thought of leaving your agency from the moment youâd been sentient enough to know that what they had you do wasnât normal. little girls grew up playing with dolls, not weapons. little girls learned the lyrics to their favorite songs, not the same words in different languages in case they were stranded in enemy territory.
little girls didnât have enemies; however, the people that raised them did, and you were expected to do whatever necessary to ensure those enemies did not get in the way.
so when you sabotage your most recent missionâ infiltrating an underground tennis betting ring to eliminate your agencyâs targetâ your spy agency deploys the only person they know who can retrieve you and still be in one piece afterwards. sure, youâd expected the inevitable fallout and subsequent chase, but not that the girl you love would leading the hunt for your head.
âYOU GOT A HEAD START. MAKE THE MOST OF IT.â
so much for tashi letting you go. years of training together for this assignment alone, goneâ not to mention the girl you thought would have your back after everything. maybe you were stupid to assume that every moment you two spent working to compete at the professional level for tennis was more than a job⌠but what did you know? if those american romance films you and tashi watched taught you anything, it was that love endured even through hardships and problems larger than the two of you combined.
but how much hardship was too much for even love to overcome? you didnât know, and you werenât going to stick around long enough to find out.
â ⌠THE MOMENT AFTER your text sends on your burner, itâs already in the bottom of flushing creek along with the tracker you dug out of your arm. the more distance between those and you, the better. with that settled, you run.
every bit of survival training thatâs been taught, beaten, and engrained into you since you could walk comes out in full force; you take advantage of the night and its natural shadows to cover as much ground as possible all while traversing uneven concrete and asphalt in one-size-too-small sneakers. luckily, youâve traveled under worse conditionsâ improper footwear paled in comparison to skimpy clothing in the snowâ and you couldnât risk the clothes youâd left in the budget hotel having trackers. anna mueller wouldnât really miss her brand-deal trainers. adidas could send her another pair within the hour, and they would if annaâs team wanted her to have any chance against tashi in the final now that you were m.i.a. (she wouldnât, but she could try).
you donât stop aside for the mandatory bathroom and rest breaks, but even those are limited. every second youâre not moving is one more stretch of ground that tashi and the rest of your agency covers while try to recover you. luckily, the night passes by uneventfully, but that only leaves you with a more challenging day.
the sun, for one, poses the biggest issue, but day also means more eyes and people around youâ especially in a place like new yorkâ that could very well be sleeper agents waiting for the opportunity to yank you off the streets. if someone even stares at you for too long, you cross the street. taking the subway briefly crosses your mind, but the idea of being cornered on the train or in a station quickly changes your perspective. not worth the risk.
ideally, leaving new york is your best bet of throwing the agency off your trail. maybe you head down through pennsylvania and towards ohio to potentially find somewhere to go from there, or maybe you head up towards canada and leave the u.s. entirely. whatever option can get you away from the city faster and for cheaper is your best bet at fleeing tashi.
you just shouldâve assumed that sheâd already been scoping out the same outlets you were; you two always did think share the same way of thinking. but unlike you, tashi wasnât naive enough to think she could escape. thatâs why she was always the better of the two of you, always the favorite. sheâd accepted the lifestyle from childhood while you still dreamt of freedom. that had always been your achillesâ heel: thinking you could get away and live to tell the tale.Â
â ⌠âTHEYâD STOP THROWING you in solitary if you just listened,â she chided one evening, the rest of the girls around you asleep on the pitiful cots you all had since childhood. itâd been right before you and tashi left for the u.s., though your supervisors were nearly set on sending another girl in your place since youâd mouthed off at dinner. while tashi had been able to convince them of keeping you for the mission, youâd still ended up spending three full days in the 6x9 solitary cell.
tashi had continued with her brief examination of you, making sure there were no noticeable injuries that would not heal before flying to the states. âyouâre making it seem like you want them to do more than just hurt you,â she muttered, practicing the american accent theyâd wanted you to perfect by the time you both touched down in new york in a week. âi had to vouch for youâ say iâd keep you in line. you canât keep acting like this.â
âlike what?â youâd snapped back, âlike a child? like iâm ungratefulâ ungrateful for the mistreatment and awful things they have us do, in exchange for food and a bed?â
âlike you want them to kill you,â she clarified, those sharp eyes of hers boring into yours. âyou keep this up, they will. let go of whatever dreamâs living in your head and wake up, гНŃĐżĐ°Ń Đ´ĐľĐ˛ŃОнка.â
youâd wilted under her use of âstupid girl,â but sheâd kissed that pout of yours away shortly after. but nonetheless, sheâd been right.
by the time the sun sets after being on the run for 24 hours, tashiâs already found you. youâre in line to board a greyhound bound for toronto with a cap slung low over your eyes, the exhaustion of being on the move all day sinking deep into your bones as you shift on your feet.
âi had to skip the afterparty for you, you know,â a voice hums from behind you, and immediately you feel your blood run cold. âadidas was throwing a whole party for the winners⌠we couldâve been having cake, or sneaking a beer right now before we went to find the target later tonight.â
tashi pushes closer, and you feel the distinguishable press of metal to your side. shit.
âat least if i beat you in the final, it wouldâve been something worthwhile to see. anna kept up the best she could, but it wasnât fun. not really.âÂ
you let tashi sidestep the both of you out of line, and your stomach sinks when the bus driver does his final boarding call. âhowâd you find meââ
âdonât play dumb,â tashi sighs turning you to face her as her brow raises. âyou were smart enough to toss the phone and the arm tracker, but you do know they implanted two in each of us right?â
you didnât know, and it clearly shows on your face with the way tashi smile sharpens. âгНŃĐżĐ°Ń Đ´ĐľĐ˛ŃОнка,â she mutters before moving you back towards the greyhound station with a yank of your arm. âif it werenât for the pretty face and skill when you do follow orders, youâd be in a ditch back home. now, youâll be lucky to still be in one piece after all this.â
it finally sets in for you that this wonât be something you can walk away fromâ not if youâre betting on tashi and everyone else to play fair. so you wonât.Â
an unmarked sedan pulls up to the curb beside you two, and tashi nudges you in and climbs in once the guard inside has a hold on you. for all you know, your agency will still have you and tashi finish out your intended mission before dealing its punishment, but thereâs no time for guessing when the gps plug-in says the next destination 90 minutes away.
youâve got an hour and a half to get out of this mess and get away; youâve worked with worse odds. so when the backseat door of the sedan shuts behind tashi, you do the one thing youâve never been good at doing: you listen, because someone is going to mention where that other tracker is at some point during the drive, and thatâs when youâll have your chance to get away.
and if they donât? thatâs just not an optionâ you have to hope they will.
do we like how i formatted this? is it cool? made the bottom two gifs myself are we gagged lol. anyways this has been in the drafts for a while⌠decided to shorten it a bit to put less pressure on myself lol buuuuuut if there is interest i can/will continue! there would def be more action in that. feeling mehhh about everything and the world rn but Whatever i love u guys đ

been helping @mirrorinthemeadow with a fun series! go check it out here! but made some fun graphics and stuff for her! take the quiz and find out your friends from work soulmate!!!
(Left to right: Arthur H, Arthur F, Issac, George) photographed moments after their contract was signed as Friends From Work. Established 2009 via HotRodd Records, managed by Christopher Dixon.
"Let's set the scene, it's 2009: James Cameron's "Avatar" was just released, Susan Boyle tops the charts with "I Dreamed a Dream" and Barack Obama is sworn in as the 44th President of the United States. What the world didnât know yet was that somewhere in London, the next music sensations were being born.Â
Seeing a gap in the UK music market for a wholesome âboy next doorâ boyband, Chris Dixon (most known for managing Sidemen, and Becky James before she founded her own girl group, The Bambinos,) started the search for the next big boyband. With auditions held all over the country, talented hopefuls showed off their skills to Chris and CEO and producer of HotRodd Records, Will Lenney. From thousands, 4 stood out. George Clarke, 26, from Bristol, Arthur Fredrick, 30, from Jersey, Arthur Hill, 27, from Buckinghamshire and Isaac Smith (affectionately known as Bach, an inside joke this reporter is told) 25, from Crawley were chosen. The group not only showed impressive vocals on their own, but were able to find their harmony after a few sessions together. The chemistry they share is undeniable, with producer Will Lenney saying, âThere was just magic when they were in a room together. They gravitated towards each other. I remember Chris and I shared a look of like, âyeah this is itâ.âÂ
Dixon and Lenney werenât the only ones impressed, Sidemen members TBJZL (Tobi Brown), Vikkstarr (Vikram Barn), W2S (Harry Lewis) and Zerrka (Josh Bradley) saw similarities in their new label mates. âWeâre similar ages with them, itâs so cool, like weâve got little brothers to look out for, make sure theyâre taken care of, you know?â explains Vikstarr, âWeâre rooting for them all the way!â adds W2S.Â
August 2009 saw the groupâs first EP âHeartbreak Hotlineâ debut at #3 on the UK Album charts, with its lead single of the same name peaking at #6. An incredible feat for such a new group. The foursome embarked on their first UK wide tour, which started in November 2009 and concluded in February 2010, just in time for their second EP, âThe Space Betweenâ to reach #2 on the charts, with the title track âInside Outâ to become the groupâs first #1 single, holding onto that spot for 5 weeks! The success isnât without controversy, with many of the groupâs critics expressing their formation as âunnaturalâ and âforced.â However, the group takes this in their stride, settling on the name Friends From Work as a tongue-in-cheek response to the naysayers. âYeah, we mightâve not all grown up together like Sidemen did, and thatâs good for them, but weâre different. Weâre not going to deny or fake our start together. Amongst all the other boys there, we found each other.â Friends From Workâs unofficial spokesman, George Clarke, shuts down any criticisms. âLike, itâs crazy, before we even released our first EP, people were saying weâre like colleagues who donât get on outside of work. So, after endless hours of brainstorming for a name, Friends From Work came to us.â Arthur Fredrick goes on to explain further, âIt took a while for Chris and Will to come round to it, but eventually they liked the sound of it and the meaning behind it.âÂ
The band have just announced their first full album, "Friends From Work", along with a tour of the UK and Europe. The expected release is May 2011, with the tour starting in June. The first opening act, James Marriott has already been announced, with the second act's identity being kept under wraps for now.
With so much buzz from fans (fanclub name TBC) and the industry, will their first album set them apart from their peers and labelmates, or could they fall as quickly as their rise to success? With a lot riding on this release, this reporter will be waiting with bated breath and be the first on the scene with all the gossip. To close out the interview, Arthur Hill had some words for their fans and supporters, âJust a massive massive thank you, this has been a rollercoaster so far, and we canât wait to make so many more memories with you all.â Isaac chimes in, âWe hope to make you all proud, this album is very special to us, we hope you love it as much as we do.â - report by Meadow Grace for Stars on Pop magazine, 2011
